A Different Direction
Are you over your turkey induced coma? Our company has left and after all the cleaning and laundry is done it will be time to drag out all the bins of Christmas decorations and begin all the work fun. I am probably not putting up the huge tree this year. I have to do it all by myself and am just not into going up and down the ladder this year so I am leaning in a different direction. Here are some ideas I saved.

I love the first tree. I've used a table top tree for the last 2 years, and love the ease and simplicity of it, especially when it's time to take it down!
What a lovely collection of small tree inspiration! I'm sure yours will be lovely and a source of inspiration for all the rest of us. (Mine NEVER turn out the way I envision them.)
I went to a smaller tree last year and will use it this year also. i miss the big one, but not the lugging everything down then back up the stairs. Lots of pretty inspiration.
I like pic 4 & 6 but think 1 is more your homes style. Can't wait to see what you come up with. We just brought home our 30 ft. tree, we were quite the site with it in the back of the truck. If my kids weren't still at home I wouldn't do a tree either. Dust collectors are all they are. LOL
I've often thought a table-top tree is a great idea. Less to put us and take down and they look so pretty. It is all about the tree skirt/bucket/basket/tablecloth etc though as that is a much more prominent feature when the tree is on a table.
I'm not doing it either. Not worth it. Not going to drag everything out of the shed when I can just decorate this small house with vignettes and other things. Going to challenge myself to make do.

the big tree and going with a simpler
version on my small table.
All the kids are going elsewhere and
it will only be my sister and the Mr
this year.. but the outside decorations
did get up today minus the roof lights.
Simple makes me smile..

Love the first one and that is probably because I have went with that theme this year for our house.
i didn't put a tree up last year (first time ever!) and i'm leaning toward not putting one up this year either...no one is here as kids have christmas eve and christmas day at their homes and we've just been invited to go to the beach on christmas with my sister and her husband.
i love all your ideas of putting a tree in an urn on a tabletop b/c for the last several years that's exactly what i did. i used a 6' pre=lit tree and added ornaments...looked really good!

We did a tabletop tree last year because it wasn't our year to hosts the family. We loved it. It was so simple yet charming. This year, though, we will be buying a big tree cause it's our year to host.
I hear ya Kim! I haven't put up a large tree in 4 years and don't miss the work one bit. I have put up a table top tree though and love it. I actually need to get a new one tomorrow. I too do all the decorating alone and hubby informed me when I mentioned using our large tree this year that I could stop with what I've already done. (Less guilt for him I guess!!?lol)
I'm sure your tree will be gorgeous whatever you end up with.

The first one is my favorite! It's gorgeous!!! I put up my big tree this year but I'm not really feeling up to doing the rest of the decorating.
Since my niece and nephews are grown, I don't do the big tree anymore. Well, that and the 2 kitties currently residing in my heart would destroy a tree especially since I have mostly glass ornaments. I tried the small tabletop trees and enjoyed them so much. Now I'm doing even smaller trees and can put them in more places around the house! I love the smaller trees so much that when I go to my brothers house with the large tree, it looks out of place!
I'm right there with you! We did a smaller tree this year that kinda looks like the second photo. I used only about half of my ornaments - the rest I'm giving to my daughter. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
You and I are on the same wave length - I am hoping to do a couple of smaller trees this year instead of our 7 ft tree...the kids are saying it won't be Christmas without a big tree, but I am the one who gets stuck doing it by myself every year...I can't wait to see how yours turns out - thanks for some good inspiration
Kim, I transitioned to a small tree years ago. I'm not 100% happy with the skinny one I've had for the past few years, but everyone else seems to like it and say not to change it out. Not sure if I'll put up my little forest of trees in the bay window. Been there done that! ;-)

Hello! I too went in a different direction this year. Instead of one big tree, I have 4 little ones like the photos you have featured, one in the keeping room, one in the dining room, one in the living room, one in the bedroom and then 3 little ones in the guest rooms. It think it looks more festive and it is so, much easier.

Kim, I just put up a small tree at dad' s house and it was so much easier than our normal big tree. I know yours will be beautiful!
I am not doing a big tree either this year. Sons are away and we will be with my sisters. I've several small ones and deciding on which ONE will be the feature this year. I did put up my biggest Nativity set under our tv. Simpler is better as I get older. Have fun deciding thanks for sharing the photos.

I think less is more this year, at least that's what I'm going with. I was told that the tree was off limits for blogging, and I'm so glad. The kids decorated it, and I claimed the mantel. No overboard for me this year. I do love the tree on the breakfast nook table with the lime green ornaments...for some reason, I just love the smaller trees.
I love the first one. What a great way to celebrate the holidays without all of the hard work. Can't wait to see what you do.

Hey Kim! We got rid of our 12ft tree a few years ago in favor of smaller fresh cut or live trees. I love the smell of a fresh tree when I walk into the house. Love the two trees with the small burlap base. I had a similar one a few years ago that was live and wrapped in a burlap ball. I used a square wood base as a stand and set the ball down into the base. It was perfect and we got to plant the tree the following spring. Amazingly it lived! It was worth it to pay a little more and still have a tree to show for it after the holiday. Have a great week! - Tonya

I am putting our BIG tree up tomorrow. Did our daugter and SIL's yesterday and their 45 feet of stairway garlands and their mantle. Today I got ALOT of my stuff done. About 4 years ago I went to a table top tree, what a joy to put up and take down!!! It's still festive and I get to use just my favorite ornies and I put holly branches in between the pine branches. I'm sure yours will be just beautiful!!!

love your ideas for a table top tree. i was considering them for myself, as i'm doing more of a organic/scandinavian christmas this year. tired of the glittzy, overdone, bigger is better decor of my last 20 years, i'm ready for a new look. can't wait to see what you do!

Kim...my hubby put up all the trees with the exception of the 12 footer...that always goes up last..already my legs ache from going up and down the ladder and up and down the stairs..so I hear ya loud and clear!!...I love the first image..fantastic table top tree....I am thinking that you have the perfect spot for it :)....I am ready for the downsizing...but then again, I say that every year!...I am sure this tree will be magnificent!

I'm feeling the same way about the big tree this year. I got a little stone pine tree that hopefully I can keep alive in a pot for us to use the next few years. I can't wait to decorate the little cutie!

Kim, we started doing tabletop trees when we moved from our larger home to our little cottage. They take up less space and less time to decorate. And they are just as pretty. Can't wait to see what you do!
I know whatever you do will be lovely! Last year I bought a living evergreen of some kind and put it in a large white urn I had purchased to use outside. It was great, the kids loved it, and it wasn't a lot of work!

We gave away our tall tree several years ago and opted for a tabletop, 4' tree...and I LOVE IT.
You will, too. They are sooo much easier to put up and take down.
Oh, this is too weird. I'm catching up on reading your posts, and here was this one...I'm posting about the very same thing tonight. I'm going for a smaller tree in an urn, too. I had already decided that last year after taking down the big tree. Great minds....
