Buy What You Love

I have heard people say to buy what you love when shopping for antiques or for other items in an antique mall or flea market. If something speaks to you and is really tugging at you then you should buy it and worry about where it is going later.

When I saw this dog painting for the first time I wanted it sooooo badly, but the price wasn't quite what I could afford at the time so I moved on.

That painting haunted me. When I went back a second time it was still available, but I still couldn't buy it.

How could I not want this painting? Just look at it.

I love this beautiful cherry frame.

Third trip back and it was there and I could buy it. It is home now where it belongs. I told y'all a couple months ago that the cow canvases had been replaced again and this is the piece that replaced them.

Don't worry the cows have a new spot. Well, one does already and the other one will later.
I will share the one soon.

I've done the same thing many times. Why do we do that to ourselves. The picture looks beautiful there in your dining room. Have a great day Kim.

That's a great picture. I really like the frame! It looks like it's a hunting dog picture. I'm sure there is a man with a rifle somewhere off in the distance waiting for the dogs to retreive his kill! Guess I've been watching too much Duck Dynasty on tv lately. LOL!

That's great that you go your picture! I'm glad it was still there. I saw something I really wanted at a store, but I just couldn't justify buying it. A week later I couldn't stop thinking about it so I went back to the store to see if they still had it and they didn't. I was so sad and I still think about the item. Now I know, to just get something next time.

The painting is so you, Kim. I find if I love something and walk away, but can't stop thinking about it, I'm never sorry if I go back and get it. We can always find a place for the things we love!!

Beautiful painting Kim. Glad it finally came home. I think if we surround ourselves with the things that speak to us and things we luv, our home will be a beautiful place. The painting is quite at 'home' on your wall :-)

what a great piece of art! I agree, when you find something you love, buy it! Especially when it's an antique piece or one of a kind.

I totally agree - whatever tugs at your heart and you love no matter how many times you see it, you know it's a good buy. I love it - I think it looks fantastic.

I agree wholeheartedly. If you love it, then use it. That is a great picture. I have such a soft spot for dogs that it makes me smile just looking at it.

OK, here's a story for ya! I know you are NOT as old as I am but when we moved into this new house in Oct., we knew this was our last move. SO, Joe has taken the attitude that we should get what we want. His new saying is.....ready???... "Remember the gurney"!!!!! Cause the only way we are going out of here is on a gurney, LOL!!!!!!!!!!! I still have a hard time with expensive items though, I am the cheap one in this relationship:) I love the painting and the frame is beautiful!!! It is perfect there in the breakfast room. Have a great day, Kim. XO, Pinky

I love your painting, Kim...so happy for you that you could get it! I agree totally, if you buy things you love, they all just go together in a wonderful way. And dogs...my soft spot...

Penny @ The Comforts of Home/From Harvest To Table said...

I totally agree with you. I don't buy things because they are the "in" thing of the moment, but because I really love it.

And speaking up love, I do love your beautiful painting. It looks wonderful!

I love the rich colors in this , its a beautiful piece,

Sarah said...

Beautiful painting! You hung it in just the right spot. Looks great!

Linne said...

I personally think the picture looks lost on the wall...looks rather small...and that the cow canvases were much more interesting and unique in that space. Don't you have a cozy den you could place this art? It's a nice painting...but not for that space...I don't get it.

Shirley@Housepitality Designs said...

It was meant to be yours...it is really beautiful and looks perfect in the room. Glad you "bought what you loved"

Lynn Fern said...

I like that attitude. I've done that to myself many times & when I lay down to go to sleep it sticks out in my mind & just won't let me go to sleep. It looks lovely and gosh your table I just love the color.

Ellie VanCaster said...

I think it is a wonderful painting and I'm so glad you have it now. I know you'll enjoy it for years and years.

Sue (Someones Mom) said...

I am a dog person, so I love this. When something haunts me...my husband always says, "you might as well get it now, because you know you are going to end up with it". Luckily, there aren't many things anymore that haunt me like that and when they do, they are often electronics instead of things I have to find a place for or dust!

I am glad it was still there when you went back! Looks beautiful on your wall!

Oh it is just beautiful Kim! A mirror spoke to Mike last week and he went back to get it. I am so glad he did because it is beautiful. THe last I recall the cow pictures were in the landing of your stairs..I am really losing track of those cows!

I do the same thing, but luckily inventory moves slowly in our small town, so I have YEARS to make up my mind. Come to think of it, there is a vintage hanging lamp calling my name. Maybe tomorrow.......

Crunchy Diva said...

I always do this! I have my eye on a painting at our local ReStore and I just can't bring myself to buy it. Not sure why, but I think about it when I'm not there! It is an amateur painting of a barn, but I just love the colors. But $25 is not exactly a thrifty score - should I go for it?

Elizabeth (Blue Clear Sky) said...

The painting is lovely Kim, no wonder that you wanted it. I think it brings a bit of the rich equestrian feel of your living room to your kitchen (does that make sense?.)

Elizabeth (Blue Clear Sky) said...

Oh, I think you refer to it as your sitting room.

Becca said...

It was truly meant to be, Kim! I love your new artwork ... it reminds me of the pieces that were scattered around our home (and my Dad's dental office) growing up, with my Dad being an avid huntsman. You found a great spot for it, too!

When a piece nags at you to buy it for a long time, you really should or you will regret it later. So glad you were able to get that gorgeous painting!

They are sweet puppies. I bet they love watching over your home! Just where they should be. I know what you mean when a piece just will not let go of you ;)

Hi Kim, It's a beautiful painting. I'm so glad it was still there at the shop. The frame is to die for too!

Pondside said...

If it passes the test of wanting it over a bit of time I believe it should be bought - whether it's a painting or a house or a car!

Maureen said...

Since that art was still there on the third visit, it must have been meant to come live with you. I don't think you'll be replacing it any time soon! Sorry to the cows that got pushed out of the pasture by the dogs.

Jane@Cottage at the Crossroads said...

Kim,
Sometimes we just have to listen when something "speaks" to us. The painting is truly beautiful, and one of the dogs looks so much like our Lucy. I have such a huge admiration for artists who can capture such beauty!

Beth said...

Love the picture! BTW, are those burlap drapes up there and is there a tutorial if the answer is yes?

Kim @ Savvy Southern Style said...

Yes, those are burlap, but they were purchased from Ballard's outlet.

Kim @ La Belle Époque said...

So glad you finally got it. The frame is lovely and dogs are always a favorite subject of mine. I agree you should buy what you love.

You're so right about buying what you love, Kim. Can't tell you how many times I've kicked myself for not doing that! The painting and its frame is gorgeous and looks beautiful in your eating area.

I love the way you say you brought it home where it belonged! I have fallen in love with something that isn't quite "me" - it's a very wee round brown/white goat-skin covered footstool. I love tactile things; pebbles, wood, wool etc but haven't done "skins". The stool haunts me!!! :-)

Ann from On Sutton Place said...

I do the exact same thing. I collect what I love and make it work somehow. Your painting is perfect. I'm so glad you were finally able to buy it. Good things come to those who wait. Have a wonderful weekend!
