My Favorite Room.....La Belle Epoque

Imagine my surprise and delight when Kim asked me to do a post for My Favorite Room Series.  I had the opportunity to meet her in person at Haven in Atlanta last summer and she is just as charming in person as I imagined she would be.  I was flattered when someone at the conference asked if we were sisters.  She certainly has inspired me as she has so many others thru her blog.

Of course she has the best name ever!

Here’s a sneak peek at what my favorite room is.  Can you guess?  It’s all about being pampered.

Are you relaxed yet?

My favorite room in the house is the master bath and closet.  It’s hard to separate them because it’s actually one large connected suite.

Heated tile floors, crystal chandeliers, and fluffy white towels speak luxury to me.

Come on in!

IMG_2458

It’s a place to unwind in the evening or rejuvenate in the morning.  This room is such a personal sanctuary and it’s where I spend a lot of time.  The shower is to the left and hard to get photos of.  You could have a party in there…it’s 6’ X 7’!!!

The best element in the room is, I think, the antique etched cherub glass over the tub.  It dates to the early 1900s and  was part of a door that we found in a Louisville architectural salvage shop when we were building the house.  I knew I had to have it even though I had no idea how I was going to use it.  Some antique items you just know you’ll never find again. It was my husband’s idea to have it installed between the bathroom and my dressing area.  It’s not an outside window.  What you see through it is part of the master closet.

This is my view from the tub when I’m soaking.  It’s so serene.

My vanity side.  The wallpaper is by Ronald Redding.  I like a bathroom to be soft and just whisper.  Not a lot of distracting things on the wall.

My husband’s side.

This is one of my favorite French finds.  A glass and nickel towel bar used in a Parisian hotel probably from the 1920s.   The glass rods are the  most gorgeous shade of aqua blue.

I have a collection of real clam shells and this one is my largest.  It is quite heavy I might add.  I like natural elements in a bathroom.  There’s an unexpected pop of green in the French glass float.

This is the entrance to the commode room and another clam shell.

I know you all are going to ask if my vanity stays this clutter free.  The answer is “yes”.  I’ve never been one to like lots of things on the counter.  I always hide as much as I can behind doors and in drawers.

When I’m ready to dress,  I head into the master closet/dressing room which is to the right through an open doorway.  This is the view from the bathroom.

This is leading to the small tucked away dressing area behind the tub.

This window lets in lots of natural light.  I just recently removed the heavy drapes.

I keep personal touches in here, like photos of me and my husband, and this charm bracelet which belonged to my mother.

This is the cherub window from the other side!

The tub is an air bath and I like it so much better than a whirlpool.  It provides effervescent bubbles when it’s on and it’s easier to keep clean.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour.

You’ll have to leave now.  A hot bubble bath is calling me.

Thank you Kim for letting me share my favorite room on your blog. I am honored.

Here’s to relaxation,
Kim

  19. That is one amazing bathroom and closet! I'm most impressed with the closet. I don't think I would be able to even fill that up! It looks like a celebrity's closet. I think I would look forward to getting dressed every day if I had that combo.

  20. I had to stop drooling so that I could type a comment. If I could dream a closet and bath, this would be it. I love every element that you used and I really enjoyed your tour. Perfection!

  21. Oh, how I would LOVE to have that dressing room! Our house was built so long ago, and the closets are tiny, tiny, tiny! I actually have a wardrobe dresser to hold my clothes. Just not the same though. It would be so luxurious to have one's own personal space in which to get ready for the day. . .

  24. Holy cow! Absolutely beautiful! I'm with you though Kim, no way would I EVER let anyone see my tiny, ugly little closet. At least I can dream of tall shoe racks and having enough room for actual furniture in my closet, after seeing this one. :) Thanks for sharing it with us! Have a great weekend!

  29. What a beautiful bathroom! We remodled our master bath 2 years ago. I have an alcove above my tub and have been wondering what to do with it. I just love your cherub window; it is lovely. I am thinking about maybe finding a piece of glass or have a mirror cut to fit my alcove - maybe etched with something. Thanks for all your lovely inspirations! I too like natural (sea/beach) items in my decor. By the way, where did you get your clam shells? I have been looking.

    Blessings,

  44. Hi Kim!!

I can understand why it's your favorite room...It's mine!!

There are so many beautiful items in the room to love, but, I think the one that I loved right away was the wall sconces above the bath tub. I've always loved the beautiful etched mirrors in home decor.

The closet is every woman's dream...I know it's mine!!

    Enjoy your luxurious bath!!
