After the Christmas mantel decor came down I stood there stumped as to what I wanted to do on the mantel, but then it came to me that some of the stuff I used on the Christmas mantel would carry through for a winter mantel. So I kept the trophy and urn, a couple of pine cones and some greenery on one side. Then I added the lantern with a candle on the other side. That wasn't quite right so I added the antlers. Then for a little added texture I added the faux vine, that looks so real, that I bought before Christmas and draped it over the lantern.
Now I am quite pleased with it until.....

You have such great style, Kim! The mantel looks fresh and beautiful. I love how both sides are same height with different objects. The trophies are fabulous and the vine looks great draped around the lantern.
I always struggle with my mantle for some reason! It is very long and we need light in that area so I have buffet lamps on it. You really have the decorating touch, Kim. Adding the brambles to the lantern is the perfect example of knowing just the right extra to add to make everything more interesting!

I love the patina on the trophies. You are a lucky gal. I can't find them, or I should say, I can't find affordable old trophies anywhere. My husband was a college jock, but none of his trophies ever looked like the old school ones.
What a beautiful painting! I especially like the addition of the vine on the lantern. It softens it. You have softness with the greens in the urn and with the feathers of the peacock, so the vine on the lantern ties it in with the rest of the look. Just my humble opinion. :)

Your winter mantel looks wonderful. I'm at a standstill on mine. Not sure what I want to do, so at the moment it is left with a simple white container filled with pinecones and two faience vases filled with winter berries. Hopefully inspiration will strike soon. ;-)

I did the same thing around here this winter...I removed some Christmas things but left out winter items and didn't really add anything else. It is a little bare, but after the holidays...I like it that way.

I had to look through the comment list to see if I had been here already or not. I had to do a double take when I saw your lantern with antlers in it! I just did that yesterday on my mantel! And I had not seen yours until now, and I also have a full set that I need to mount and I want to put it above the clock on the wall above my mantel. I see that is what you have done. Oh my. It's lovely Kim! I was able to leave a lot of my stuff on my shelf in my living room too. It all came together quite nicely this year. Usually I'm thinking 'where is all my decor'!! fun when it comes together well and you love it.
