My Favorite Room....Evolution of Style

Hello everyone!

I'm Jenny from Evolution of Style, and I'm flattered and thrilled to be here sharing my favorite room .  I've been a fan and follower of Savvy Southern Style for a long time now, and love her style and this great series.  A huge thanks to Kim for the invitation to share my favorite room!

Choosing my favorite room was more difficult than I thought it would be, because I really love so many of the spaces we share as a family, and am thankful every day to call this house my home.  It's truly my refuge and my retreat.

My favorite room in my home is my kitchen.  I know it's not a tranquil retreat like a master bedroom or a space to soak your cares away like a master bathroom, but it's a room that makes me happy.

I think part of the reason it's my favorite, is because it's wonderfully light and bright, a big change from the cherry kitchens in our past two homes.  While I loved them at the time, my taste and style has evolved over the years, and I was ready for something different.  I also love it because I worked to make it into the space it is now.  I didn't hate it when we bought our house just over two years ago - I just didn't love it.

Let's go back to where it all began, so you can have a little perspective.  Here is what our kitchen looked like when we first bought the house.  Again, not terrible, but just not me, you know?

Before diving in full force, I tested the waters by painting the kitchen island black.

This gave me the confidence to take it to the next level.  After a lot of research, reading and asking a lot of questions, I painted the rest of the cabinets.  And I have to admit, it was a tedious process, and I may or may not have second guessed myself when my kitchen looked like this:

But, in the end, it was totally and completely worth it.  I swapped out the drawer and cabinet pulls with new hardware that really tied the whole look together.

And I painted the kitchen this great shade of blue - Mountain Laurel by Benjamin Moore.  I love the contrast.

I was amazed at how different the countertops looked against the new cabinet color.  Such an improvement!

A final photo montage of the full evolution of this kitchen.

Thanks again, Kim for inviting me to share my favorite room with you and your readers!

Thanks Jenny, for sharing your beautiful kitchen transformation with us.

Oh yes , I like the white cabinets so much better. I had my cabinets all painted white 7 years ago and still like them.
My kitchen isn't a high end newer kitchen like yours though, just an old updated kitchen

Jenny's kitchen is awesome now!

You know I don't normally care for blue anything because I think darned near every room in my mother's house was blue and I got overloaded.....but seeing that shade of blue there works so well to temper all the warmth of her counters and backsplash - that was a stroke of genius there.....and taking island to black and making the cabs white - love it, looks GREAT!
