New Project Started

My house was so clean two days ago and now it is a mess again. Why, you ask? Because I have started another project. Yep, painting again. Who would have thunk?

This is my life right now. I have started painting the dining room chairs and the sun room is my current work spot. I was leaning towards French Linen to start with, but feel they would have been too gray so I am using Old White ASCP instead. The yellow chair in the background is what I sit on to paint the lower part of the chair without killing my back.

When Mr. Savvy came in after work yesterday he gasped when he saw me painting this first chair. I had already told him I was going to paint these. I guess he really wasn't listening.

I am also going to recover the chair cushions and chose this huge buffalo check from Calico Corners. The toile is what my drapes in there are made from. This shows how the two work together. I feel like a real designer showing my choices. :)

One chair is painted and waxed and I am still working on number two with two to four more waiting in line. I have eight of these chairs, but am not doing all of them. I don't use all eight at one time anyway. The table just came with eight and they are stored my hoarding room.

BTW, I do not like painting chairs, I do not like painting chairs, and did I say I do not like painting chairs!!

Happy Saturday!

I already shared a peek at this yesterday on FACEBOOK so be sure to follow me there, too.

  1. Sorry to hear of Mr. Savy's shock. I think they look great. Can't wait to see the finished project with the new cushion cover. Where do you get all of your ideas? Do you get any sleep or do you lie awake at night thinking of things to do? You have such great ideas and do fantastic work. Have a great week-end. Sheila

  2. Looks like you;ve been a busy girl. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Funny how we have to make a mess in order to get to something "pretty." It's one of the things that sometimes causes me to procrastinate with a project.

  3. Love the colors! Loving that big check for the cushions too!

  4. Love your fabrics "designer" Kim! And I'm sure your chairs will look amazing...can't wait to see everything when done!
Hope you have a great "working" weekend! :)

  5. OMG, the men HATE change of any kind. They simply cannot visualize how it will look when finished.
    Go on, it looks great!

  6. Wow! They're going to look great. I love ASCP Old White. I'm laughing at your husband's reaction. Precisely why I always try to do my projects when hubby's out of the house! I always mention them to him ahead of time (well, ALMOST always) but somehow, it's always better to get the project well underway (or better yet, finished) before he can try to stop me. He's always happy with the results, but it's nice to avoid the drama too. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Have a great weekend!

  7. Chairs are the.worst.to.paint! But yours is looking awfully pretty!

  8. Wow Kim, they are going to be gorgeous with that paint and that fabric...it looks so well together. I really respect people who can paint over a stained piece...I'm a "wood" person and cringe when I think about painting over my kitchen cabinets or anything stained in my house. Even though I want painted cabinets I can't bring myself to do it, lol. I can't wait to see your table and chairs finished. Have a great weekend.

  9. I do not like painting chairs either :-) Yes that is one of my big sellers in the store.. hand painted chairs.
Luv the check and how it plays off the toile. Beautiful! Well done designer !
Can't wait for the finished posting.

  10. Your inner designer is bang on-that is pretty much the same fabric that I'm using for my dining room drapes and that exact toile we are using for pillows in the adjoining family room. Holly chose those fabrics. Your chairs will be gorgeous, and I agree with you about painting them-so fiddly.

  13. Hi! I'm in North Carolina and I'm so glad I brought my laptop with me so I could keep up with everyone.
I hate painting chairs too, that's why mine are still black, also bar stools rank right up there with chairs for painting.
Yours look wonderful but they are a lot of work I know!

  14. LOL ... I do not like painting chairs, either, Kim, BUT, for some reason we keep on doing it, right? And, I love that you went with Old White ... the distressing looks amazing! And, you will laugh, but I just bought that almost identical check fabric for our new bench. Look forward to your reveal! :)

  15. I have that same toile, and it's one of my all-time most favorite fabrics!
I have thought of you and your blog alot this week as I go through my late mother's things. I was so tickled to bring home her 24 place settings of ironstone plus lots of matching serving pieces--she loved those dishes and I'm loving unpacking them and putting them up in my kitchen. Feels like I have her right here with me.

  19. Well, so far, so good. I am with you- I HATE painting chairs! But, once you get started, there is no turning back, is there? I think it is going to look great when you are done. As far as Mr.Savvy goes? They NEVER listen and then act insulted when you carry out what you told them you were going to do in the first place- xo Diana

  27. Nothing like a good buffalo check, love your choice!! I got the same color along with black and white and I use them as a tale topper on my kitchen table over the white full length skirt. It is such a classic, clean, crisp pattern. I think it is going to look GREAT!!! Miss Painting Woman!!

  36. Oh...I hate painting chairs! They are the hardest especially when you have so many. I painted five for my dining room and I swore never again. And I had to do like four coats! Ugh.....

I know it's going to look beautiful! Hang in there.

  37. I love the fabric with your new chair color! Lynda

  40. Kim - Your chair looks great! Two years ago I did an arts and craft show called "An Affair of the Heart" and I painted 113 pieces of furniture. I was so stiff and sore that I could hardly move. In fact, was scheduled for roto-cuff surgery after the show. But, when the show was over, my pain disappeared!! So, it's really fun but hard on the bod! LOL

  52. LOL....looks like the consensus is in. We don't like painting chairs but we do it anyway. :) That toile is my very favorite and I can't wait to see your finished project Kim. I have been painting a dresser and armoire all week. The weather has been crummy all week so it was easy to stay inside but today the sun is supposed to shine and I want to be outside but I want to finish the armoire too....decisions, decisions. Hope you are having a great weekend!

  53. You are a real designer in my book, and that buffalo check is going to look fabulous in your chair seats! I just bought a smaller check in the same color to use in making a bedskirt. Can't wait to see the whole reveal!

  55. I think I am the President of the IHPCC (I hate painting chairs club). That is probably why mine are still waiting..... since November. All those little nooks and crainies, UGH. But misery loves company, maybe in a sign of solidarity I'll start mine.

  56. I just laughed aloud as I read your husband must not have heard you. Just a couple minutes ago I said I needed to pick up some bananas, and in less than a minute my husband asked me if I was going to get some bananas. Additionally, I told him I would like to paint our two dining room arm chairs, and he cringed. The male mind might be a scary place.

  57. Okay, you have motivated me to get up off my chair and start doing some work around here. You have always got a project underway and the thing is you always finish them!! I love that.

  58. It's going to look gorgeous! I love your toile. And yes, I agree about painting chairs, one chair seems to take as long to paint as a big dresser! All those details...

  66. I can't wait to see the chairs. they are going to look Great with that fabric. I sent mine out because I was afraid of messing them up. They have a silk like Avery print. And it cost me over $1000.00 and they didn't do it the way i wanted anyway. You are Brave !! lol And I know they are going to Look Beautiful, Love that Buffalo check.

  71. Kim -
I absolutely love your fabric choices!!! I'm actually considering using the same toile in my dining room. Since I completely adore your entire home, I assume I would love it as well. I might just go ahead and do it ;) I couldn't find a picture on your blog of the drapes... so just curious if you know of one? I'd love to see how they look! And I think I'll go with your buffalo check as my complimentary fabric. Great job... again!!
