Master Reveal

6.03.2013

I know it has taken me awhile to show you the master bedroom, but I never could get any decent light in here for pictures. When the leaves are back on the trees they block out good light so even though they say not to take pictures with the lights on it was either I did or wait till fall to share the reveal.

The first thing that was updated was the wall color. This doesn't look that much different than what I had before, but it is lighter. The old color was Davenport Tan and the new one is Alexandria Beige both by Benjamin Moore paint. The walls were in bad shape so it was time for them to be refreshed.

I'm loving the new mirror over the bed in place of the cheap starburst mirror.

I have had only the plantation shutters on the windows for fifteen years and deiced to add an ivory panel to each window for some softness. I love how the room feels cozier just by adding drapes.

I scored big time on these lamps from Restoration Hardware. Actually I scored even better on the shades.

Mr. Savvy's side.

This is his favorite picture of us taken about twenty years ago.

The other big change is the carpet. Goodbye shag. The shag had been chewed at the door to our bedroom by miss Bailey when she was a puppy and it had gotten loose at the bathroom door. I am so glad it's gone.

New white lamps were by the bed until I found the new ones from RH so I put these on the dresser. The lamps came with white shades, but they were just too white for the room so I bought new shades on clearance from Pottery Barn.

Flower detail on lamps.

After repairing a gazillion nail holes in the walls I have only put one nail on this wall for the mirror so far.

Old magazine rack holds some design books.

The cow picture that hung here before has been replaced with this watercolor. Going for a more grown up look. :)

Brought back out my toile pillows from storage.

I added this little needlepoint pillow from the sitting room to this chair.

Here is a picture taken at dusk that shows the room color and drapes better.

I had priced wood flooring like we have through out this level, but it would have been twice the price of the carpet and I really like how the carpet makes the room very quiet. I can tell the difference as soon as I step in here.

You can see how the room looked last summer here.

Details and pricing of new items and products:
1 gallon of Benjamin Moore paint in Alexandria Beige: $48
Mohawk patterned premium carpet from Home Depot plus padding and installation: $1200
New RH Library antique brass lamps: $94 each regularly $165 each found at the outlet.

Checked out and got $50 more off the total bill
with a special promotion they had going.
Total for lamps and shades was $163

  6. This is so pretty Kim. I could spend all day in this room. It's very restful and calm. Although I love wood floors and have them in our downstairs, we have cream carpeting upstairs. It does make it quiet, like you said. I just layer other rugs on it. And I love how you captured the soft light in this room too. Have a wonderful week

  13. Morning Kim,
You did a beautiful job as always. Love the addition of the one white panel. Adds a nice cozy feel to the room and creates a very elegant, yet
relaxed and restful feel as well.
I have to say I wish I had your fondness for painting.......I don't dislike the painting itself, it is all the prep work that I hate.........lol
Your new carpeting is really pretty and adds
a lot of softness I bet...........

    Enjoy your new retreat!

  72. Your bedroom is gorgeous, Kim. You have such great taste and bring it all together so well. The new carpeting looks very stylish and the flat weave is a really good idea-the softness and soundproofing of wall to wall with the look of a giant expensive area rug. I'm definitely going to keep that in mind when we replace our bedroom carpet in a few years.
