Artissimo in the Sun Room

8.19.2013

So what do you do when it is dark, gloomy, chilly and rainy all weekend?

Apparently I start painting things. Yep. Paint.

So what did I paint? Well, I actually painted on three things, but I will show you one of them now.

Remember this large painting in the foyer?
This picture of the odd looking person on the bench is one of my favorites and I have had it for many years.

I showed you this painting that I decided to hang here instead of the large and small ones. I was then in need of a spot for my other painting. I walked around with it wondering where it would fit. It ended up in storage for a short time until an idea popped in my head.

But before I show you the new spot let's look at how I changed the frame from gold to navy. I love navy and it is one of my favorite colors. Probably is my favorite color to wear. I have lots of navy. So when Miss Mustard Seed came out with this new milk paint color called Artissimo I had to order some to try.

I painted two coats on all over the frame. I probably should have taped off the glass first, but I am impatient and didn't.

After I finished painting it I decided to highlight the raised design parts with my gold guilding paste.

Oh, and let me backtrack and tell you I first used the hemp oil all over the frame and then used the gold guilding paste.

Here you can see the details done in gold.

Here it is on top of the chest in the sun room. The colors are perfect in this room and will be a nice change for fall in place of the framed Navy shirt I had here for summer. I'm not quite decorating for fall yet though.

I think I like it in here.

Now if MMS would just quit coming out with fabulous new colors.

Have a super week!

I still haven't used my Artissimo paint yet...decided not to do my little cabinet so I'm trying to figure out where to use it. Love your frame with all it's little details. And, I have to get some of that gold guilding wax! Everything you use it on looks fantastic!

  5. I love the color and it looks great on the frame...my supplier does not have it yet...I am anxious to try it...I love gold and navy together...as a matter of fact when I painted my bedroom as a teenager for the very first time, I painted walls navy...everyone thought I had lost my mind including my dad...but they changed their minds when it was all done..with pretty light gold curtains!...so I love navy and gold!!...and "she" looks great in the sunroom!!!

  14. That looks fantastic Kim. I wanted to tell you that I was never familiar with that artist until I saw your artwork. I love it! My dad has been getting cancer treatments in Austin....the hospital we go to has a whole huge wall that is done by that artist. It's amazing!

  16. I love the new frame color! It looks great in the sunroom.

So funny to read of our differences here. I do not wear navy at all. Other than 1 pair of exercise pants LOL. I think because my grandmother was such a fan of navy - it makes me feel old.

We have had a cooler few days - but loving it. Able to sit outside, use the firepit, etc. and enjoy it! Late yesterday it started raining and is continuing today. Supposed to get to upper 80's and sunny later in the week.

  34. That frame turned out great in navy with the gold Kim. It looks great in your sunroom. I have been painting too, but not as much fun as yours. I spent the weekend painting the master bathroom.

  35. I love the navy! Navy and gold together is so classic! The first house I owned, over 20 years ago, was built in 1924. We lovingly re-did that bathroom, and I used navy and gold together in there with the old white subway tile on the walls and penny tile floors. I still miss that house! And, I am falling in love with navy all over again!

Can't wait to see what else you've done! I'm sure it will be amazing as usual!
    Have a great week!

  42. Kim,
Being a blue person, I love the new navy with gold highlights around your painting. It goes perfectly in this room. Plus, I like your painting because I love 'girls' with wild and crazy hair. Could it be because my hair is so flat with no curl whatsoever?

  47. Kim - so just to make sure I understand - did you paint the mirror, apply hemp oil (brush or wipe it on - let it dry for how long before gilding)? The frame looks amazing! Thanks for your help!
