Cozy in the Sitting Room

10.28.2013

Well, how was everybody's weekend? I have been going and going since last Thursday and let me tell you what. I think I am pooped. Yep, sure am. I don't mind it though because I had so much fun. I will tell you more when I share some photos in a few days. For now we are going to take a look at how I have added just a few fall touches to the cozy sitting room.

With the days getting shorter and the angle of the sun changing this room is filled with light and shadows every morning.

I like to add just a few fall touches to this room like my cute squirrel on a stack of vintage books.

I found this little fellow at an antique shop last year.

The addition of the blue gray pumpkin and an over sized acorn finish out the vignette.

This is really the coziest room in the house and Bailey sure thinks so, too.

I hope my pumpkins hang on a bit longer and then I am going to save all the cute stems.

A simple wicker pumpkin added to the top of the vassilier.

This room is really bright and warm several hours of the day and this ivy that was tiny last spring really loves this spot.

A throw from France and a new brown and cream plaid pillow added to the leather chair just say come and sit a spell on a chilly fall day.

I sure hope y'all have a super week!

  7. Awwww Miss Bailey - so cute!

Your pumpkins should last a while. I always put mine out mid-October and leave through Thanksgiving.

  16. Your Sitting Room looks very cozy and warm. Love the little touches of Fall. Bailey seems to really think it is cozy.

About the pumpkin stems - last year I collected a whole bunch that were on the ground at the pumpkin patch. I put them in a sack and got them out this year and they had all mildewed and molded. So, be sure and leave them out in the open until they are completely dried out.

  25. I love your home, it is very beautiful and welcoming. I do have a question about your kitchen cabinets.. I was wondering what color in the annie sloan paint do you think the top cabinets would be comparable to?? I love the colors!!
Also, I have to say I LOVE the squirrel!!! My great grandfather used to have a ceramic squirrel that he kept on his dresser and yours reminds me of him!!

    1. Well, that is kind of a hard one. There is Old White that would automatically be an ivory color, but without the glaze. Or use Pure White and then the lacquer before adding a brown glaze like I did on the island cabinets.

  26. Thank you very much. I was thinking the Old White but I couldn't tell from the computer. I will probably use that one. Thank you for your input!!!

  28. I love this so much. It's inspired me to maybe redo a corner in my bedroom to be a cozy place to retreat. I've tried the pillow and throws on the sofa in the living room... the dogs and kids just toss them all on the floor and make a mess, so I need something like this where they can't wreck it.

  29. Definitely cozy! and I've always loved your style.

  35. Kim, we drove over to Culpepper's Otto Depot yesterday. OMG! I thought I had died and gone to junk heaven. I loved the place. I told David that I had heard about the place from your blog. He was happy to hear that and said he knew you from your visit to the depot. We bought several old doors and an old window. Also got some neat things to use as planters. I could have stayed forever in that place. Looking forward to another visit soon. My husband is making a bench for our mud room and will use the old doors for the back of the bench. Also going to use the old window to frame one of my quilts. Thank you so much for telling us about this place. It's only 1 1/2 hours from our house and I'd never heard of it.

    Blessings and hugs,
    Kathy
