I remember it rained on our wedding day and not just a little. It rained all day long in massive amounts with flooding on the roads all the way to our honeymoon destination at Disney World. Do you remember all the frogs jumping in the road in our headlights through Florida? We were laughing about how many there were and I was telling the little froggies to stop getting in the road. I remember once we arrived at The Polynesian Resort at 2:30 in the morning we were exhausted and our champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room were warm since they had sat there so long.
I do know one thing they say it is good luck to get married on a rainy day and I guess they are right.
Do you remember this? This was in 1974 when we were dating. OMG look at my hair. I tried to go longer, but always end up back with it short. I needed a flat iron back then.
This is probably one of our first professional photos taken at good old Olan Mills. Do they still exist? I think it may be time to get a new picture taken.
I can't believe I actually fixed myself up in the hospital after giving birth to our son in 1979.
By the birth of our daughter in 1980 I didn't seem to care what I looked like.
Oh, and I don't know how you could stand my permed hair. Oh, those were the days.
While we are travelling back in time here is an old picture of my sister I thought I would share. She won't mind do you think?
While we are travelling back in time here is an old picture of my sister I thought I would share. She won't mind do you think?
Moving on past the bad hair days we have been very fortunate to take some fantastic trips until the economy went belly up several years ago. This Alaska cruise was one of my favorites. Maybe we can go again after you retire.
I think we were feeling very good here at our daughter's wedding reception. We were through writing all those checks and now it was over and we were handing her over to our son in law.
This will always be one of my favorite photos of y'all dancing at her wedding. I still tear up looking at it and I know you do, too.
Your such a good G Dad.
And our Bailey loves you, too.
Happy anniversary to my best friend and soul mate and here's to many more years together.

ReplyDeleteOh Kim, these are wonderful shots! I, too, tried growing my hair and always come back to short. I also did the perm thing for awhile, OMG!!! I know just what you mean about the picture of Mr. Savvy and your daughter, I do the same thing. Wonderful memories and thanks for sharing them with us. We, too, had a tiny wedding and NO ONE thought it would last 3 weeks but here we are, 46 years later. So there:):):) Happy Anniversary to you both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to you both…I enjoyed your wonderful photos, special memories for sure. We'll celebrate our 44th this year…and NO ONE thought it would last…but it did. Happy Anniversary....these photos are so cute!
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary! You have had such a blessed life and I loved seeing the pictures from the past! I can so relate to the hairstyles and the need for a straight iron back in the day!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome post Kim!! Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your anniversary, Kim and Mr. Savvy. Looking back at photos is always interesting, isn't it? We drove to Disney for our honeymoon too (3 days driving each way in incredibly hot and humid weather in 1992 just before Hurricane Andrew.) I can relate to the hairstyles as well. I have totally straight super thick hair and always wanted curls in those days leading to many crazy perms. Congrats on the nomination too.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet and filled with love for Mr. Savvy. Many blessings to you both, Olive
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, what a beautiful couple you both are! Mr. Savvy is a handsome guy! The photo of him with your daughter made me tear up too:-) What a testament to commitment. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations Kim. This was a beautiful photo story of love and life. I wish you and your husband many more years of blessings.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! Thank you so much for giving us a glimpse into your past! It is wonderful to see how life evolves through pics and I think so many of us can relate to the monumental events (and hairstyles!) in everyday married life that you've shown in yours. I love that you got married young and have made it last, proving others wrong - we did that too, having both been 20 when we married and are still very much in love at 51. (Yep, married on a rainy day too!) Hope you have wonderful plans to celebrate your day!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Loving the 70's HOME décor in your first pic! I'm sure YOU could fix that in a minute!
DD
Happy Anniversary! Thanks for sharing all the memorable pictures! Best of luck on the Homies too!

ReplyDeleteI loved this trip down your Memory Lane! What a beautiful couple y'all are. 39 years? Congratulations! Yes, indeed, it has lasted!! You must have had very good judgment for a 19-year-old.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be celebrating our 29th anniversary this summer, and even 29 seems like major accomplishment in this day and age. We are blessed to have found mates with whom we could weather all of life's good and bad, aren't we?
Congratulations and God bless you with many, many more!
I so enjoyed a little glimpse into your life. My husband and I just celebrated our 19th Anniversary last week and it poured on our wedding day also....still wondering why I got married in February, I think it had something to do with not being able to wait any longer after we got engaged and the feeling of the clock ticking since I was 25. Our first photo as a couple was with Olan Mills, as well.....oh the memories!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to the both of you and for many more to come:-)
xoxo
Kathleen
LOL Olan Mills where everywhere, weren't they? I think everyone has a picture from there. Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your life with us. Happy anniversary to you and your husband and many more.

ReplyDeleteAwwwww . . . . . you made me cry! SWEET pictures . . . . I have been with my husband since we were 15:) and have been married since 1978. We too got married in the rain and have exactly three pictures of the day . . . somebody recently said to me (after I said we've been together for 45 years) - 'and you still LIKE him?' *got a chuckle out of that! Actually, I cherish him . . .
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! I enjoyed your photos from the past. I went through all those same hairstyles and thank goodness perms haven't come back in style............yet! Isn't it amazing how quickly the years pass?
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary, Kim and Mr. Savvy!!! Congratulations on so many wonderful years together. Love, love, love the pictures!! You know those hair styles will be back again someday!

Just precious, Kim! Y'all are one photogenic couple. My gosh, when I saw the first picture close to your current photo in your sidebar, you look almost the same all these year later. And you look just like Princess Diana in those photos with your babies! So wonderful to see such a nice couple, happy together for so long. We just celebrated our 27th :) Happy Anniversary to you both, and best wishes for many more loving years together! xoxoxo

ReplyDeleteFun to see the photos through the years. Hope you have many more happy years together.
Happy Anniversary to you two! My late husband and I were young when we married. I was17! It lasted until his death which was 32 years. My current husband and I will celebrate our 9th anniversary on March 5. I think it says a lot for those who can stay together, and reap the rewards of doing so. Thanks for sharing these photos, and I wish you both many more years of happiness!
ReplyDeleteHappy, Happy Anniversary to you two, Kim. Your make a beautiful couple. I can't decide which picture of you two I like better- the one on the cruise or at the wedding. It is fun to see how you have grown up together. You are definitely a short hair girl. I am not- look like I have a fuller brush on my head...lol
ReplyDeleteHeaded over to vote for you-
It's wonderful to see a couple make it through the long-haul and still be smiling and happy. Bless you both and hoping for many more years for you!

ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary Kim and Mr. S! I was 19 as well when I married my "older" 20 year old Airman!!! We will be married 38 years this Oct. We honeymooned at Disney World also! Now taking the almost three year old grand=daughter every year! I am amazed as well when I meet someone else that has been married as long as we have.
ReplyDeleteWishing you another 39+ years with your best friend!
Vanessa
Great post. Happy anniversary to you and Mr Savvy!
ReplyDeleteKim, What a beautiful tribute to Mr. Savvy! I enjoyed reading and looking at your pictures. You are a beautiful couple. Your marriage certainly follows a lot of our experiences. I was only eighteen, I didn't want my children to marry that young, and Sweet Ole Bob was 19. We will celebrate 56 years this June. It is not necessarily the age but the dedication to each other. Happy Anniversary and here's praying for many more.
ReplyDeletePS. I have you on email subscription and I hate the fact that your post just showed up in my inbox.
Better late than ever, I guess.
Blessings, Ginger
Happy Anniversary Kim. You are more beautiful than you were on your wedding day. My high school sweetheart and I have been married for 46 years (this July). We dated for 6 years before we got married. I agree with Ginger...it's being dedicated to each other and your marriage. Seems these days the thought about marriage is...if it's broken get a new one. It is truly a blessing from God to find the right person and be happy together for a lifetime. I wish you and Mr. Savvy many, many more wonderful years together. Hope I'll run into you this year at the Country Living Fair in Stone Mtn.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this post a lot Kim. Sometimes I think a gal has to be at this time in life to really understand from the first photo to the last. I understand it all. Happy Anniversary.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Beautiful photos and a well lived 39 years! Any man that can put up with all your projects and changes, is a gem of a man. You make a wonderful team! Continued blessings!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! Lovely pictures and memories...here's to many more! ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! We were also married in 1974.(July)......I noticed I had some of the same hairstyles...haha. May your next 39 years be sweet and blessed!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet (and sweetly done!) post--
ReplyDeleteHAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
btw--you look EXACTLY the same--FABulous!
Catherine
That was a sweet post! Happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteLovely post and great pictures. I do have to say though Kim, even though I have seen many cruise pictures, I thought the one of you and your hubby looked more like y'all had threw your hat in the political ring and you were kicking off your campaign! *giggle* I guess I need to stop watching CNN and get back to HGTV.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Kim! What a milestone! We're going to celebrate our 20th this year, and I don't know where the time goes. Love all of the photos, and I think you two are like a fine wine - you get better with age! :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and Happy Anniversary Kim! Wonderful story - thanks so much for sharing it with us! I enjoyed all those photos too :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary and I hope you have many more. I loved the retrospective of the hair! I also have a photo of me the day after my son was born, all dolled up just like you -- lots of eye shadow and fluffy hair.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 39 years! We got married 36 years ago on a rainy day in December. I enjoyed your story. Hugs for many many more! Dianne
ReplyDeleteHow sweet are these pictures? We bought a multi gift pack of pictures from Olan Mills when we got married 38 years ago. Thank you for sharing these and I wish you many more years of happiness.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful family. Congrats on your anniversary. You could renew your vows at some point and have a special celebration with all your relatives and friends and then have a beautiful album of pics. Best of wishes.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! My husband and I are right behind you, March 25, 1975. We too were 19 years old and thanks to God we are still together. It just gets sweeter everyday, ( well most days, LOL). Hard to believe it has been 39 years. We have come full circle, it started out with just the two of us and then came the children. They are now grown and gone, so it is back to just the two of us. Can't think of anyone else I would have rather spent my life with then the man that I am married to. God has been so good.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, wonderful post!!! We are going on 30 yrs. this summer and were supposed to have an outdoor wedding but...it rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, lol! I don't think it's rained like that since that day in 1984. :) Best wishes for many, many more years of what obviously is indeed wedded bliss!
ReplyDeleteKim how is it that you actually got prettier through the years? Honestly you two are one good looking couple! Happy anniversary to you both and I wish you many more happy years together!
ReplyDeleteXO Barbara
Happy anniversary! What a beautiful life you and your husband have had together!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful life you and Doug have created together! Loved seeing the two of you through the years! Here's hoping to many more years together!
ReplyDeleteThat is a perfect example of LOVE! Day one......through the trenches........what a wonderful DAD; Mom.....and the dog pic just made it the most obvious! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteToday is my 67th bday....Tuesday my husband's 75th; Wednesday our 36th anniversary!
We had a "blended family" (I had one girl, 7; he had two, 212 and 13; and they are all "sisters"!)
Blended families when they work out are like "platinum" more valuable than I can explain!
Bravo!
Wonderful post!

ReplyDeleteSuch sweet family photos, hair and all! Thank you for sharing them! I too was married at 19 too and have never regretted it. I thought I was crazy young for getting married, but he was and is it for me. How wonderful to have spent a lifetime building a family and memories together. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteHello Kim, better late than never, some days passed but I come back to leave my comment.
ReplyDeleteYour post is lovely and so sweet. I think you make a great couple, not just because what you said today but because I can perceive it when I read your blog every day.
I enjoyed your photos a lot.
Congratulations!
Ah! I married 26 years ago and it also rained a lot that night, I was so disappointed because the party was taking place in a house with a big garden, but now I realize it really brought me good luck...lol.
Besos!
Happy Anniversary, Kim and Mr. Savvy! I loved all of the photos you shared...but the one with Mr. Savvy dancing with your daughter, and with your grandchild are so special. Many more happy years together!
