Apples or Lemons?

3.13.2014

Last Monday I shared how I have started freshening things up for spring. I shared the new tray and vignette on the coffee table and how I switched out some pillow covers.

Today I'm sharing how I switched up some things on this side of the room by changing up the vignette on the sideboard.

The great room is usually where I make seasonal changes first since it is the most used and most seen room. It is the room I see while standing at the kitchen sink.

This vintage scale from France has served as the centerpiece on my farm table in the breakfast room for a couple months, but I decided it needed a new spot for a bit.

I filled one side with apples and the other side with a new to me ironstone tureen filled with greenery. I took my faux grapevine and formed it into a little wreath and hung it on this vintage bread board for some added texture.

While creating this vignette I had also tried lemons. There really isn't any other yellow in this room so I switched to the apples, but these could work, too for a bright pop of color.

You can see how I had the sideboard styled before here. This large rectangle vintage bread board is new. I ordered it from Elsie Green several weeks ago and placed it here in place of the round one.

I don't know. I really like the lemons, too.

Hmmm, apples or lemons?

Have a great day and be sure to return tomorrow for another guest blogger's favorite room.

I'm going to enjoy lunch out with my sister and mom to celebrate my mom's birthday that was last month.

  1. Lemons speak spring to me. I think it's because my mom always made lemon merinque pies in the spring.

  2. I'm a Brittany girl, so I'd say apples, but lemons really have the perfect colour for spring!

  10. Every single element in your vignette is a show stopper from the fabulous scale to the breadboard, your ironstone piece and lamp. I like the way the red apples play off the fabric in your sideboard and your grain sack. But the lemons look so springy too.

  12. Agree with Chateau Chic! I also like the way the apples pull the color from your beautiful sideboard. I love lemons, but the apples look like they belong there.

  15. They both look good Kim...what about the apples for now and then you could change them out for the lemons in the warmer months.

  21. I too am going to say Lemons! Love the unexpected pop of color, and lemons scream spring to me (I personally love apples in the fall).

  22. I love the lemons but I particularly like how the red of the apples picks up a little red from the design on the cabinet. It still looks springy!

  23. I'm going to say lemons. The color is so springy. I love apples in the fall but I also like green, Granny Smith apples in the spring. I love, love your scale. So wonderful.

  24. Lemons. Yes I luv the apples as well, but to me red apples say Fall and Winter. So I am rooting for the lemons. :) I say this as I have apples out... but mine are green , Granny Smiths. Spple green says Spring to me as well .
Hmmm, did I help or confuse?? Hahahahaa.

  26. David's wife Laura says-Don't mix them (sorry, they release a gas that helps the other over ripen fast) and it's not even wise to mix them in your crisper drawer, Though it would look pretty - I PREFER LEMONS!

  27. I say lemons, they scream spring with the yellow and citrus feel. Every time I see this side board I drool. It is one of my favorite pieces you have on display.

  28. Lemons are just finishing up their season. I still have some good ones on the tree.

The red picks up the colors in the side board.

But both are pretty! You could also try green apples or tangerines. ♡

  30. I love the lemons...which would also look lovely mixed with limes to give you a pop of real spring :)

  31. Lemons seem like spring/summer and apples definitely fall.

  32. I say the lemons. I think the lemons say Spring. Not to mention the smell (if they are real) I think the apples would be great for more patriotic times like Memorial Day or 4th of July when pops of red would be good.

  33. Kim, great way to "shop" the house! I like the refresh and I think I feel obliged to vote for the lemons. I think the apples will be fabulous for fall!

  34. looks like you don't need any more input - but yep - the lemons 'pop'... the apples color coordinate - but they don't 'pop'. (In other words - they're too safe.) :) have fun.

  35. People like yourself always inspire me. Isn't it wonderful how just a little change can make such a huge difference? I love your changes today.

  36. Another vote for LEMONS....so fresh and bright for spring and summer! :)

  37. The scale looks lovely in that spot, Kim. I too like how the apples tie in with the reds but the lemons are a lovely pop and perfect for spring with the green. Either way you have a beautiful home and a real knack for styling vignettes.

  38. NO matter which you choose, we know it will be lovely.

  39. I prefer lemons since they seem very summery (lemonade) and apples make me think more of autumn. Either would be fine though.

  40. I like the look of the lemons, Kim. Fresh and springy! Your posts reminds me to change out the things I have in the trays on my scale. It's still sporting hearts. '-)

  41. I vote for the lemons, too! I had forgotten that I had some faux ones, too, so now I've got to find them!

  46. Kim,
I like them both but the lemons really add that pop of color with the greens. Have fun with Kelly and your mom tomorrow. Wooo Hooo girls day out. Happy Birthday to your mom. Enjoy.

  47. Hi Kim! We were having the same problem between Lemons and Apples! Everyone seems to like the lemons, and thats what I really like too. I think it is the pop of yellow that really makes it appealing. Looks great!

  48. Lemons:) I love the Spring feel and the pop of yellow.

  49. Lemons! I guess I'm partial to them, because I just did a little vignette that needed some color, and the lemons provided the color I needed. The apples look really nice, but maybe that could be your fall look!
