Roses and a Horse

3.09.2014

We are enjoying beautiful spring weather here in the south this weekend and I just wish it would stay this way. I sure hope all of you who have endured a very long cold snowy winter get to enjoy spring like days soon. I would send them your way if I could.

Do you know what happens to pretty pink roses when the water dries up? Pretty dry pink roses.

These are the roses used in the photo shoot last month and someone forgot about them and then found them dried out. Oops.

But that's okay. I love the way they turned out and they add a bit of spring in the house.

See my pretty little brass horse. You do know it is the year of the horse, don't you? I have been seeing so many horse figures made of all sorts of materials and in all sizes in home decor.

I lucked up on this fine stallion, well I'm not sure if it is really a stallion, but we will say it is, at the antique mall and it was only $13. Yep, solid brass horse and only $13.

Well, check out this dude that was for sale on One Kings Lane in their vintage section. Want to know how much? $99! Yep, $99!
Now, I don't know about you, but I think mine is a lot prettier and only $13. The $99 one is kind of scary looking.

Just another good deal I found. Oh, and it was badly tarnished, but cleaned right up with Bar Keeper's Friend liquid cleanser.

I hope you score some good deals if you go antiquing.
I think I'm going to Ikea for some non antique deals.

Have a beautiful day!

  8. The dried roses actually look quite beautiful. Love your horse, too. It is a prettier horse than the King's Lane one. He cleaned up fine. I bet the liquid BarKeeper's does work good on small things with odd places to get into. I like the powdered one for my sink. It seems to "scrub" better. xo Diana

  14. The roses are still pretty. I didn't know it was the year of the horse, but no horses, cows, ducks, etc. here. LOL Hubby and I had a little antiquing adventure yesterday. I saw a horse/hunt picture and thought of you. We don't have Ikea here in TN, but I think it might be a bit overwhelming to me!!! I'm not big on shopping, but we do love antiquing!

  15. I think they are just as pretty dried! Your horse is definitely the better looking one - I thought that before you even said the other one was scary. Yours is very noble looking!

  18. You ALWAYS find great scores.

I love how your roses dried. I think Steve needs to go out and buy me roses so I can dry them.

  20. That horse really did clean up well! I can't believe how expensive the one is at One Kings Lane! That's crazy. Your flowers did dry to still look pretty. I guess that's the good thing about roses. They don't last very long, but dry pretty.

  21. I have my Valentine flowers drying in their container and I love that look. You asked about going to antique malls, I have a small booth at the KNitting Mill in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We leave before 7 on Saturday mornings. looking for treasures for our booth. It is our hobby and we love it!

  24. One kings lane probably bought their horse for $13 too at an antique mall... And then marked it up to $100. I suppose you could do the same!
