What's One More Layer?

4.15.2014

When I shared the guest room did you notice the little table? Actually I didn't share this photo, but one that showed just the corner of it. Welcome to my latest paint project. Well, no that is wrong. I painted something else to that hasn't been shared yet.

I dug through my old posts and found this photo to show you how this table looked before I ever got a hold of it with a paint brush. It was yellow and distressed when I bought it.

The first time I painted it I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in Aubusson.

Second time I painted it I added a layer of black with Miss Mustard Seed Milk paint in Typewriter.

I wasn't using the table, yes it had retired to the hoarding room, but I decided to use it in the guest room. I grabbed my sample jar of Versailles. It is a soft green.

I painted a couple of coats and then sanded some places to show the other layers.

A coat of clear wax all over and some buffing and she's done.

This will be a good place to set the guests' towels out and maybe some snacks and water.

The more layers of paint the older it looks. You just never know when it might be painted again.

What's one more layer?
Have you painted a piece more than once? I know I'm not alone.

I can't wait to see what you have to share at Wow tonight.
Did y'all like the 7 o'clock start time or do you prefer 8?

See you there!

  3. As I've said before, I wish I had your painting energy, you repaint things as often as changing clothes! This little table has looked cute with all the colors, but I do love seeing so many colors peaking out here and there, a character with a colorful past!

  4. Hard to choose which color I like best. I love how just change it up on a whim. If given a choice, I like earlier for the party, but you're the host - we'll come when you invite us!

  5. I love how you layer different colors on your pieces as you move them from room to room! I have some painting projects lined up but am waiting on better weather. I like the earlier start time for the party because now I can link up before I go to my art class! Hope your hand does not give you too much pain today!

  6. Just tell everyone that you planned to do this - you just let it dry a few months between coats! I love the layered look that has resulted!

  7. I have that exact same table Kim. Only mine is still in the dark wood stain from when I originally purchased it. Versailles is one of my favorite paint colors and your table looks wonderful with the different layers of paint peeking through.

  8. It looks great, and now I'm thinking of adding another coat to a small table I have. Hmmm. Looks like fun!
Your 8 o'clock is my 7 o'clock, so I'm fine with 8. You are just very nice to invite us all over to link up at any time!

  9. That turned out great. Yep- I have painted some things a couple of times and some things I don't like no matter HOW many times I painted them. xo Diana

  10. I like this layer/color very much! I just recently started painting furniture so most just have one coat. I'm thinking my dining room bench and chairs need a new coat of paint though. You've inspired me!

  12. Such a cute table! Honestly, I never thought of layering the paint. I would have sanded it, painted it then distressed it down to the wood. I really like this idea of just adding layers to make it look older. Thanks for the idea!

  22. Hi Kim, As always I love every touch you make in your home. Your guest room is huge!! Our new guest room won't be that big but hoping it looks perfect when we are done with it. We've never painted wood furniture-maybe because hubby is a wood worker and in his book, you just don't do that. I love yours though. We have gone, in our new guest room, from golden oak(most of our house has oak)to a darker mahogany type shade. Not quite sure what the end result will be; hope it looks perfect for those few times a year we have guests.
Thanks for sharing and giving us some inspiration. If you lived close, I'd have you over to help me.
    Hugs,
    Noreen

  23. This table is gorgeous Kim, I remember the first transformation. The yellow was pretty and I love that rooster next to it. Now it has all that old charm. I can't wait to get my hands on my stuff. I decided that I want to repaint some of my dining room furniture. Planning away, LOL.

  24. For some reason, with as much furniture as I paint, I am hesitant to repaint and add other layers. But, that completely needs to change. I love how you do this...it adds so much interest!

  29. Kim, you are the master painter! You should really start teaching! That would be so fun, we could all come over for lessons!

  30. I love this shade ! I always laugh to myself thinking "If reincarnation was real, she'd have been a master painter in a prior life" :) Meaning you are one now, but you were probably Master Painter to a King or something in the past! :) 7:00 would be nice, actually, sure! :) Whatever you decide

  33. Very pretty table. I love all the layers! My walls have been painted so many times in the last 5 years. If I sanded them down, I'd have a rainbow! I think I'm finally happy with them.
