My Second Favorite Room

5.01.2014

Today I'm sharing my second favorite room in my home seeing how the sun room is my number one favorite. This room is filled with many of my favorite things and with this room being smaller in size it feels cozy in here especially on a chilly day when I can wrap up in a throw.

In case you are a new reader this room is a mix of French and English Country styles. This vintage vaissielier a.k.a. French hutch is my favorite piece in my home and it was a very lucky find and bargain.

I really should start having my morning coffee in here. I love the morning light that floods this room this time of year.

I switched to some lighter pillows for the warm months ahead. I never thought to use these toile ones from my master bedroom in here, but they are perfect. Right colors and there are dogs in the print.

And just look at the vintage French ticking pillow. Actually I should say pillows, there is one at each end of the sofa. I purchased the pair a few months ago from One Kings Lane and they are big and thick and cushy and the ticking is so soft. I will say I spent more on these two pillows than I ever have, but I just had to bite the bullet and get this vintage French ticking.

The dark tapestry pillow that was here before has been replaced for the hotter months.

I took the velvet slipcover off the seat cushion of this leather chair and decided to have the worn faded look show instead and I like it.

My vintage framed dog print from France and an old hunt scene hang on this side of the room. These were hanging on the other side, but have been replaced by something else that I found at a local antique mall in February.

As soon as I saw this handsome fellow I knew it would be perfect in here.

Isn't it perfect? Only $69 I couldn't just leave it now could I?

I forgot to water this plant for a while and a lot of it was dead. I cut all the dead parts off and have been keeping it watered and fingers crossed it will fill back in.

Miss Bailey jumped up on the sofa while I was taking pictures. This is her morning spot watching the cars go by.

The room feels fresher and lighter now. This is where the old set of antlers from the great room above the fire place moved to when I replaced them with a much larger rack.
Perfect fit.

It is so easy to give your rooms new life with just a few changes. Swapping out pillows is such an easy update. If your rooms are feeling tired just get some new pillows and maybe a couple new accessories or better yet shop your house and just move things from one room to another.
Easy peasy.

  4. If you ever tire of your blacksmith sign and decide to sell it, please let me know. My husband IS a blacksmith, has a blacksmith forge on our property and this sign would be such an amazing surprise for him. Donna at the Small House Under a Big Sky.

  8. This room and your dining room are definitely my favorite rooms in your house! The french vassielier is heavenly and I actually remember seeing it in the store obviously before you bought it. It is the perfect piece for the space. I also love the round table in front of the sofa and its taller stance. Miss Bailey just completes the picture and the mood. I am a artist and live in Alpharetta/Milton and would love to meet for a cup of coffee sometime!

  9. Thanks to your inspiration, I no longer feel guilty having a pillow stash! If I see a pillow I like, I'm buying it, because I now know how easily they can change the look of a room. Might I add, Miss Bailey is the perfect addition to that room with all the dog prints. :-)

P.S. I also LOVE that blacksmith sign!

  25. Your room is lovely, such a warm feeling. I do love the vignette on top of your cabinet, I am trying out a few new ideas for the top of my large Korean cabinet and you have inspired me to get something in cane. I think mixing textures is a great idea....I must add, I do love the ivory chair with the studs, its fabulous, was this a project of yours? or did you buy it as is? The reason I ask is I have a plain chair and was thinking about having it recovered and adding some studs.

    Your house is gorgeous.

  27. The mix of styles go well together. I paid full price for pillows once but they are most favorite many years later. Sometimes a splurge is worth it. Miss Bailey sure looks pretty. I am terrible at keeping my Mazi looking so fresh. Have fun painting this week. :)

  28. I am a big sucker for pillows. They are definitely my go-to for when I change a room up. Everything always looks so pretty Kim. I think I've got the same plant, and did the same thing. It was up on top of my cabinets in the kitchen. Too hard to get too. lol

  38. I have a cupboard I plan to use in my kitchen. When I purchased it, they referred to it as a Welsh cabinet. It is on the order of the one you have--storage with doors, shelves for display. How is a vassielier different?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. A vaisselier is just a French hutch. Welsh cabinet is from Whales and mine is from France.
