The Sun Room Spring 2014

5.05.2014

I hope y'all had a fabulous weekend. I got a lot done. Paint project is done, but of course there is a bit of a domino effect from that and now the bathroom to that room is getting a makeover soon. The wall color in there just looks dirty after painting the room it is attached to. I was going to paint it eventually anyway. This is just pushing me to do it sooner because it is awful looking.

Anywho on to today's post. I am finally sharing how the sun room looks now.

Going in from the breakfast room you can already see the changes.

When I ordered the red buffalo checked drapes for the breakfast room several months ago I accidentally ordered two pair. When I first ordered the ones that are now in the farmhouse style guest room they were sold as each panel. Now they sell them in pairs and I didn't catch that so I received two pair.

I didn't want to have to pay to send them back and I had been toying with the idea to put some panels in here so I decided to just hang them in here and I LOVE them.

After hanging the drapes I decided I wanted two matching lamps at each end of the sofa, not that I need anymore lamps or anything, and I knew red ones would be perfect. I love these that are by Safavieh and were ordered from overstock.com. When I posted these on instagram Safavieh liked my instagram. How cool is that?

I told y'all I have been adding some black to this room and it all started after I moved this chair in here from the sitting room.

I painted this round table at the end of the sofa in Graphite chalk paint so there would be some balance in here. I really love this color. It is a dark charcoal gray rather than jet black. This is one of my pieces that has been painted more than once. You can see the last color it was here.

I added these vintage binoculars to the stack of books. I found these on One Kings Lane in the vintage sale and I was hoping they worked well enough to grab and look at birds outside, but they aren't real clear.

I swapped out the artwork above the chest to this large bird picture that was in the master bathroom.

It is not exactly what I want to stare at when I am taking a bath, but it works in here.

The old berry crate was in the farmhouse style guest room, but I decided to place it in here on the coffee table.

I found this vintage enamelware colander in an etsy shop from France and decided I needed it to go with my collection.

This is the room where I hang out most of the time and blog so of course I have magazines close by. I filled this wire basket with a few......

.....and this olive bucket with a few more.

The Antiques sign was a fairly recent find from Decor Steals. I had been hoping to find a real vintage sign, but this reproduction works just fine.

Here you can see there is a large jute rug and I put the blue plaid one that really doesn't work with the red checked drapes away. I may eventually replace this rug with a softer one. As my granddaughter Leila says, it's scratchy. She won't walk on it without socks on. I do like the look though.

So for now it looks like this. Of course there may be some pillow or vignette changes from time to time.

I shared a post already showing the other side of the room. You can see that here
I shared the the coffee table switch out and paint change here.
And I shared the pillows here.

I sure hope y'all have a stupendous week!

  6. Pretty, pretty, pretty! I love it all. I'm a big fan of red, so I especially like the pops of red you've put in. I have similar curtains that I bought for my family room, and I would love to find shorter rods like the ones you have. I've not been successful in my hunt thus far. Even on Pinterest, folks will comment on pins, "Where did those rods come from?" Very few people seem to know! Anyway, enjoy your lovely sunroom!

    1. Ellen, I got the rods either at Home Depot or Lowes. I can't remember which. They were just the shortest ones they sell.

  73. Absolutely. Love this room....everything! I keep thinking about doing something like wainscoting or beadboard in my home that is a very traditional '50s ranch. I like the look of cottage/beach decorating but am miles from water. I could sit in this room for hours. Thanks for the inspiration.

  74. Kim, sorry for being so far behind. The sunroom is another favorite room of mine and I love seeing the changes. I love the pops of red and the buffalo check. I am thinking of using these in some areas in our new home. Country Curtains has some I really like but the colors may be off when I go see them. Where did you get yours from?? Online or shopping in your area?? I figured maybe I can purchase or check the color choices if they were purchased online. Thanks
