French Country Style Guest Room Reveal

6.03.2014

I love the color green and enjoyed this room while it was Green, but it was the one room that didn't flow with the rest of the house. I want more French Country or French farmhouse style in my home so this room needed to conform.

First I had to come up with a plan and then start the transformation. This room ended up going in a different direction than what I had first come up with. First thought was using a black ticking duvet, which ended up being on back order, and using a red, black, and ivory scheme in here. Glad I changed my mind after painting the walls.

First thing I did was buy some nice light paint. I used French Canvas by Benjamin Moore. See even the color name is French. I went in the store with several colors to look at and did not go with a single one of them after spying the French Canvas. I LOVE this color.

It is such a pretty neutral color. This room is so nice and bright now.

I really didn't have to buy anything to decorate with since I have plenty in my own home to shop from.

I shared the nightstand makeover here.

There are a couple new things that were purchased a couple months ago when this room wasn't even on my mind to make over. These blue ruffled linen shams were found at the Pottery Barn outlet. These were regular price of $59 and marked down to $16.97 on the package plus on the clearance shelf for another 50% off. Woo hoo! Score!

I added my toile pillows that were in the dining room and a linen pillow from Ikea. I moved the painting from the kitchen to here and love it.

This old tattered quilt made by Mr. Savvy's mother lies at the foot of the bed.

I switched this table and the nightstand to the opposite sides of the bed just to shake things up a bit.

I am loving this antique chest in here with the new wall color.

I added some items I gathered from around the house. The dog painting moved from the dining room.

A reading corner.

This bench was stored away and I am loving it here beside the chest. The old starburst mirror was in a pile to take to GoodWill, but I like it here.

I like the texture of this old dark brown basket filled with white feminine pillows.

Trying to get a shot of the new drapes is about impossible. As you can see I already swapped out the pillow in the chair.

Here is a close up. They are the natural colored ticking panels from Country Curtains.

I'm so glad this room has a neutral palette now. I will be able to switch out accessories from time to time so watch out.

I am loving this room so much more now.
Of course one project leads to another. Now on to the bathroom. Can't wait to get it finished

I just returned from a 2 1/2 week trip to Paris and Provence. I'm sharing the journey on my blog if you would like to come along.

  5. The new neutral wall colour is such a pretty starting point for your lovely pieces and French Country style, Kim. I have to admit that paint colour names sway me in my decisions too. It's so much easier to love a paint colour with an appropriate name lol. I think it has a lot do do with being bloggers/decor lovers. The antique dresser is a stunningly simple piece and the blue PB shams are perfect in shade and ruffliness. The neutral background allows the blue to flow in so nicely. Another beautiful room that I can admire and learn from-thanks Kim!

  37. I love this room. We are having our bedroom repainted. I will have to look into this color. I wanted something blue but we are getting ready to list our home. I probably should lean more neutral. I sent you my email address. Thanks for choosing me as the winner.

  68. I am really loving this change though I can't remember what it was like before. The fabrics all work and the lighter color gives it a carefree happy look. What would I do in here? I would add some plates above the bed and change out the floor lamp for something more French.
