I removed the two white vases from the mantel and then started trying out different things. I used trophies, trophies with boxwood balls on top, old books, and the list goes on, but nothing was feeling right. So I left it bare until that light bulb moment hit (at least I was hoping that would happen).
I have always loved French confit pots and was so glad I found two while in France last September. They have been on the top shelf of the bookcases and really not at eye level where I could enjoy them so it dawned on me to try them out on the mantel.
First I just set them at each in empty and stood back and stared. They looked okay, but I thought to myself what can I fill them with from the yard? So with clippers in hand I went out and cut some crepe myrtle branches. I love the way these look with the berries hanging on and how they soften the hardscape.
Then I added these silver candlesticks, an antler shed in the center and called it done.
Of course the bookcases got tweaked, too and those will be shared later.
This is my view from my kitchen sink.
I sure hope y'all have a great week!

ReplyDeleteIt's very pretty.
ReplyDeleteit looks great Kim.. I love the simple look as your painting adds the fall drama to the area, imho:)
ReplyDeleteps- those crepe myrtle buds are poisonous to pets.. they look great but tend to dry out quick and drop off easy.. Bailey might think they are a treat and they would make her very sick.. just trying to help..
Thanks for the info. I have them in water so I hope they don't dry out.
DeleteLovely, restful and perfect for early fall!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great Kim. I love that you have two confit pots that are similar. I only have one :-(
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful, Kim. Those confit pots are gorgeous!! I wish I had some, have ALWAYS loved them. I also love the dog painting and think Fall decor would look wonderful with it too!
ReplyDeleteThis is my added fall decor. :)
DeleteI know, but you mentioned that you can't do the cute Fall decor that you see others doing. I just meant that ANYTHING would look beautiful with the dog print:):)
DeleteI'm talking about where they add a big fall sign and do the mantel all up in cute fall decor. All that just doesn't fit my style in the house, but I love it in the right place.
Deletei love the simplicity. one thing leads to another over at your place! :)
ReplyDeleteA perfect "French" Fall Mantel vignette!!!...Love the confit pots on the mantel!!! Great job Kim!
ReplyDeleteIt is the perfect fall mantle. Love the confit pots and the antlers above the painting. I feel like there is such a large space above my painting on the mantle and antlers would fill that space beautifully! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat touches Kim.

love the simple approach for Fall. I'm going to have to take ques from you about mantels. My new one is big, but I won't be able to go overboard on decorating. Your marble surround is always gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe pots are perfect there, Kim...I love the simple elegance! Beautiful fall decor!
ReplyDeleteLove your new mantel display. I like those confit pots for the Fall too.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Kim!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely view from your kitchen sink.

ReplyDeleteI think your 'understated mantle with the confit pots look perfect Kim! The colors are so fall on the pots!
ReplyDeleteThe new touches on your mantle look great. I smiled when I read that the mister said that the painting is staying :0), so you're going to work with it. We've all had discussions like those with our husbands :0)
ReplyDeleteI noticed the wheat in the dog painting . . . Have you thought of flanking your mantle with tall bushels of green or beige wheat? It might add a warm Fall touch too.
Love that you picked clippings from your yard. They're natural and beautiful.
Thank for sharing,
Suzanne
I actually do want to add wheat to the mantel and will probably place some in the pots later. This is my favorite painting and the mister said it isn't moving because it is quite heavy and hard to take down and put back up. :)
Deletelovely!
ReplyDeleteHi, Kim - The confit pots look divine - so warm and prominent! I think you should keep them there permanently! Cheers
ReplyDeleteLove the confit pots on the mantel, Kim! The color will be perfect for a variety of Fall accents.

Just right. :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks great, Kim. Our main mantle has a picture on it that I can't move either and I do love it but would like to mix it up a bit sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThose comfit pots are GREAT. I can't believe it was already a year ago that you went to France. Wow-time just flies, doesn't it? Speaking of flying - I need to get on my broom and head to bed before I fall asleep sitting up. lol Have a great night- Diana
I love it! And that painting is fallish so...it works! I would love to find some pottery like that here. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Kim! Wow it's almost been a year already since your trip?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - and what a gorgeous fireplace on top of it !
ReplyDeleteAll of it looks just perfect :)
