More Salvage

9.01.2014

On Saturday I gave you some peeks at what will be coming up in future posts. One of those things is this wonderful old chippy shutter that I found last week. Yep, chippy, rusty and wonderful.

A little ride into the mountains last week prompted me to stop by the salvage place in Otto, NC where I also found my butcher block and the salvage piece for my pot rack. This time I started looking at his doors and shutters and found this beauty.

I looked at them while Mr. Savvy sat in the car again and he looked at me like I had four heads when he saw this coming out to the car. At first I thought this was a door, but the mister informed me that it is a shutter that locks and latches from either in or out.

This is the back side with another latch. The darker spots are where the wood was drying after I washed this thing down. It was filthy. The owner of the salvage place said it came from Britain. Looks like it had set in a nasty cold basement or something for quite some time.

The back side has hardly any paint left on it, but I love the blue color left on the front.

I cleaned it good and then used hemp oil and clear wax to seal it.

Now it is looking much better.

So where did I place it? Well, you will just have to wait and see.

Also if you follow me on instagram then you know I have been a crazy painting fool. I worked on two projects this weekend and finished them. Today the paint brush is put away and I'm going shopping!

Happy Labor Day and have a great week!

  4. If it didn't come from "a nasty cold basement", would you have ever wanted it? Nice find!

  10. The shutter is incredible. Miss Mustard Seed (Marian) is featuring a new product on her blog used to seal paint. I don't think hemp oil and wax will prevent paint from chipping off and there is always the possibility of lead in old paint.

  15. What a wonderful piece Kim. Don't we just love those looks we get from our hubby's!;) Mine made me smile today. HE actually went to drive by a pile that somebody had sat at the street to see if there was anything good. I was impressed.
