Bed and Bedding Choices

10.14.2014

Yesterday I shared what my queen size bed looked like before the change to a king size bed. This past weekend we actually took the queen bed apart and set up the king size frame and headboard. We are just waiting for the box springs and mattress to be delivered. Then I get to play dress up! That's the fun part.

I put together this collage of what I'm using. I ordered another upholstered headboard, but this one is lighter in color and it has wings. It is not white like the photo shows, but lighter than the last one.

I have always loved the ticking duvets and shams from Ballard Designs so I ordered those. They were offering free shipping and I put out a call on facebook to see if anyone had a discount coupon they weren't using and lucky me someone did. Thanks, Angie! That coupon saved me $40 and every bit helps with this giant sized bedding and prices.

Then I made a trip up to the outlet mall and looked at bedding at the Pottery Barn store and before purchasing the diamond linen quilt they carry I decided to check out Restoration Hardware that is directly across from PB. Everything in the store was 40% off. I checked out the quilts and lucked up on the Vintage Belgian Linen quilt in ivory. This quilt was marked with a regular price of $329 marked down to $163 plus 40% off. With tax I paid $105 for a king size gorgeous Belgian linen quilt! Saved $224!

The photo above of the quilts and shams is from the Pottery Barn site because I bought the euro shams like the ones in the photo at the outlet store and saved $20 on each one. I purchased three so I saved $60 on them.

So we are sleeping in the guest room while we wait for the mattress and box springs to come in.

Here is a peek at the headboard in my room.

Hurry up mattress and box springs!

See y'all tonight for Wow!!

  6. That's going to look so good. You will love sleeping on your bigger bed, but HATE how long it takes to change the sheets and make up your bed every day. I noticed that immediately when switching from queen to king. It feels like twice the size! However, I have a footboard on my bed, which adds to the challenge. Yours might be easier then. So what are you going to do with your other queen headboard now?

  8. My sofa is Restoration Hardware Belgian Linen... and my favorite thing about it are the two of their pillows and shams in from that bedding!!! LOVE it! Tell me where you find a comforter BIG enough and if that duvet is big enough for a thick king matress! I always have trouble getting them to cover well. Can't wait to see more, Kim. blessings ~ tanna

  9. When you run out of projects, how would you like to come do some work at my house? Yours has to be getting pretty close to perfect.

  10. We need to visit those outlets! The king size in bedding is very expensive as you have discovered. Plus you always need either three euros or three standard pillows for shams, plus your kings. Good king size pillows are pricey, too. Almost every day when I make my bed, I think of Kathleen Turner doing handsprings back and forth to get her bed made in "The Wars of the Roses!" But the adjustments are worth it to sleep better.

  11. I love your new quilt. I have been searching for a while for an affordable off white or ivory quilt and shams....for our king bed. We switched a few years ago to a king and every night, when I lay down I think my hubby for this wonderful Christmas present which was a surprise for me! I didn't think we needed it but don't know how we lived without it for so long. Enjoy your new king and thanks for sharing the preview pics.

  17. OHHH How exciting! I remember when my husband and I went from a full sized to a queen. We had to sleep with just the mattress on the floor because they couldn't get the box spring up our "L" shaped stairs. They had to take it back and bring us two twin box springs. No way could we ever get a king in our room! Good excuse to build a master bedroom downstairs, don't cha think? ;) Can't wait to see all the new pretty things in your room!

  18. Savvy smart shopper, Kim! Well done, how exciting.

My sister has a king and I love it - she had surgery recently so I actually hopped on the bed with her and kept her company. I kinda wish we had one now, too! Yay for you!!
