My Favorite Food on a Cold Day

Are you up to your eyeballs stuffed with turkey and all the trimmings? Yea, me, too and I will be drinking my juices and lots of lemon water today to get back on track because I feel terrible.

Today I thought I would share an old post of my favorite chili recipe perfect for a cold wintry day.

These are the ingredients I use plus three pounds of ground meat. I use a mix of ground round and lean ground beef and have used some ground pork mixed in before. Also used is two large onions and bell peppers. I am lazy and bought the ones already chopped.

I start out sauteing the onions and peppers until they are tender.

At the same time the peppers and onions are cooking I brown the meat and add the chili powder.

After the meat is browned then add the peppers and onions and mix.

Then you just add all the other ingredients.

Cover and turn down to low and let it simmer thirty minutes or more.

Enjoy plain or with the toppings of your choice.
The mister likes his with saltines which I can't eat anymore.
What do you like to eat with yours?

Chili Recipe:
2 1/2 to 3 lbs. ground beef
2 lg. onions chopped
2 bell peppers chopped
3 tbsp. chili powder
2  15 oz. cans kidney beans
1 28 oz. can whole or chopped tomatoes
1 14 oz. can tomato sauce
1 6 oz. can tomato paste
2 bay leaves
1/8 tsp red pepper flakes or more
salt and pepper to taste

Have a fabulous weekend!

  1. I didn't stuff myself yesterday! YAY!! I ate one plate of food - well I did have a little more broccoli casserole LOL, and much later 1/2 piece cheesecake. With all the events during this season I'm determined I'm going to rein myself in and eat in moderation. I had oatmeal yesterday morning, thanksgiving meal at 2:00 and the cheesecake later on. So today I won't feel guilty having leftovers for dinner tonight - again 1 plate and will probably not do dessert today. I'm also drinking lots of water. My poor dry skin needs it!! I make my chili much like yours although I use all lean ground beef. I brown my meat and saute the onions and green peppers in with it all at the same time. We are snug as bugs in a rug today - enjoying the day and NO SHOPPING (unless I do some online). Bliss!

  2. We love chili. Your recipe is very similar to mine!!! Also love to substitute the beef for chicken. Have a great weekend. Already missing the smoked turkey that my brother in law makes.
