New Finds with Vintage Appeal in the Guest Room

11.07.2014

I attended the Liberty Antiques Festival several weeks ago and still haven't shown y'all all my finds. I love signs and when I saw this red Antiques sign I knew it had to come home with me.

When I purchased it Shirley made the comment that it isn't old. Yes, I'm aware of that, but it has a vintage look and I can't pay hundreds for the real deal anyway. This was only thirty dollars. The sign sat on the kitchen table for a couple weeks while I decided where it was going to hang. I like it here above the bed and cow chalkboard.

I have had this new Pottery Barn home pillow for a couple months and it makes me think of home for the holidays.

The dark gray works in here or I could move it to the sun room where I am also using red and gray.

I like when accessories can be used from room to room.

The other new thing from the festival is this new quilt. It is machine made and not made by hand like the Other Quilt I bought the same day. I just love the colors in this one and the pattern.

And y'all know I love me some plaid.

A vintage suitcase I have had for some time has replaced the basket on the trunk just for something different.

I picked up this bunch of yellow flowers at Costco and stuck them in this pitcher. I set it on the table beside the bed and then moved it here in the better light to take pictures. This time of year the light is terrible in my house and there is lot of editing on these photos.

I love my new additions that have vintage appeal.

TGIF and have a super weekend!

  4. Kim your sign is beautiful! Somethings do not have to be old to be appreciated. The thing about decorating is if it appeals to you and your taste , it does not matter what other people think.
Your sign is beautiful over your bed, I would have purchased it in a heart beat.

  13. Kim, I think you've coined a new term: "vintage appeal"! Things don't have to be old to have that appeal--and it's wonderful when things have that look without the high price tag. Love that "Antiques" sign--and now I want to make one for myself! :)

  20. Cute sign, Kim. I, too, think that the vintage "look" is just as good sometimes if you aren't dedicated to having to have the "real" deal. Especially when you like to change things around and get tired of them..then you don't feel so bad getting rid of something if you haven't spent a fortune on it. It looks really nice with the bedspread and picks up the pop of red in the quilt. xo Diana

  25. I am a quilt person, and you have a lovely quilt. I am always so interested in the shapes and the old fabrics ladies used. I have a quilt that my grandmother made that has my mothers old dresses as the fabric pieces. I love it of course. Have a great weekend. sheila@mykentuckyliving

  28. Kim - Your guest room looks wonderful! The colors are perfect for the upcoming holidays. I love signs too and cannot justify paying the $$$$ for the "real" old ones so I buy the reproductions as well! Sometimes, I apply a little BriWax to them to give an aged feel and to make them better fit with my antiques and vintages items. My husband says I "age" up everything in my house! :-) I never thought about hanging one over a bed - thanks for the great idea!

  32. I love the changes to your room! What great finds! If it helps you to feel better, know I am having dark days for photography at my house too and it doesn't help that my camera has decided not to take pictures when the flash is on. Can you guess what I'm asking for for Christmas?

    1. I don't ever use a flash. Just had to up the ISO and aperture to brighten plus lots of editing. I hope you get your new camera.
