Vintage Christmas Vibe

12.05.2014

A few days ago I showed you the Christmas Vignette on top of my antique French chest in the foyer and today I'm sharing a few more decorations in the foyer.

I bought this little tree a couple years ago at Hobby Lobby and was using it on the front porch, but it was competing with the lights on the garland around the door so I'm using it inside this year.

First I had just placed the tree on the wooden base. Then I remembered my old bushel baskets and knew I had one large enough for the base to fit in.

I tucked in some red fabric I had on hand and some pine cones.

I wasn't going to decorate it, but then I started placing these ornaments on that I bought at Walmart. I was going to use these as napkin rings, but I like them on the tree.

Many of you know that I babysit one of my granddaughters twice a week. When she came in and saw the tree she asked me what the thing on top was called? I told her a  "tree topper". No, Grammy, what is it called? A "tree topper", Leila. Noooooo, Grammy it has a name! Mommy's is called a snowflake so what is yours called? Leila, it is a "tree topper"!!! She walked off in disgust. lol

While I was shooting the pictures I noticed this print on the side of the basket for the first time. Funny how you discover something new through the lens.

I had this stocking hanging on this antique hanger in the antique armoire in the dining room and just plopped it all on the stair rail.

I kind of like how this has a vintage Christmas vibe.

Much more to come.

Enjoy your weekend!

  12. Your tree looks great there!!! I am just fiishing up the stairway garland in the foyer. I didn't do it early so my siter wouldn't have to deal with it while she was here. Now I will be DONE!!! Love the big piece the tree is standing on. Leila is so sweet. Funny story:)

  13. Your little tree says "Christmas" to me! Love the little gingham ribbons also. Wish I had a basket to put my table top tree in. I'll be on the lookout for one this Summer when all the garden supplies are out. Also love your beige wall color. Would you by chance remember the name of the paint you used?

  20. I love the idea of using the basket to put the tree in! Too cute! What a sweet story. You could call your tree topper a "pointer to Heaven" since it looks like it is pointing to heaven. Maybe you should have a contest to give it a name. haha.

  24. Kim,
Love how beautiful your little tree looks in the bushel basket. Just this week my Mother and I were in a antique shop and saw some vintage ornaments. We racked our brains trying to think of the other name for a "Tree Topper". Finally, on the ride home I shouted out "Its called a Finial!! Just think of the look your granddaughter would have given you if you would have said that..

  29. I love the red bells on the tree: it gives it colour and charm. And Leila is right, there should be a more glamorous noun than "tree topper"!
