Guest Bath Project Has Begun

2.28.2015

I mentioned the other day that Mr. Savvy started a new project while I was out of town last weekend. I was hoping to not have this started until a couple weeks later since our son and his family are arriving for a visit next weekend. Since the mister was ready to start early, and it won't be finished before they come, I'm afraid we have a bit of a mess.

This is the first thing you see when you enter the farmhouse style guest room.

The old faux marble sink and counter has been removed to be replaced with a new granite counter I ordered last week. The old one never did fit correctly. I am beyond thrilled to say goodbye to the brown toilet.

For now there is no counter or sink to use and you saw the toilet in the bedroom.

The walls are the first thing he started on and I will be priming and painting soon.

There is much to be purchased and installed in here:
 white toilet
 faucet for sink
faucet and shower head for tub
 mirror
 light
 floor
Shower curtain, rod and liner.
Possibly have the tub refinished depending on cost.

I guess I better start shopping since the only thing we have so far is a MESS!

Sorry, son, but it looks like there will only be one bathroom for y'all to share.

If y'all want to see what this room looked like before you can see it HERE.

Happy Saturday!

  7. Well, it is a mess....but will be worth it when it was done. We had a brown (I think they called it taupe) toilet back then that I was glad to see go, too. It always just looked "dirty" to me somehow. I think the kids will get by with sharing a bathroom! xo Diana

  9. I just started on my powder room and the bottom layer of wallpaper Is directly on the wallboard. It is impossible to remove without severely damaging the walls. Are you removing the wallpaper In your guest bath before putting up the beadboard? I was thinking beadboard might be a solution for my powder room. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

    1. Sharon, we are not removing the wallpaper. We have done that before and it was a huge mess and way too much work. That is one of the reasons we chose beadboard plus it goes with my farmhouse style in that room.

  10. Men! You can't turn your back for a second! When I was in the hospital getting a knee replacement, my husband decided to do some painting... He is not yet quite trained in that department. Oh well, I guess I will keep him anyway. Sigh...

  12. Thanks, Janette. Anything will look better than it has. Lots to do in such a tiny space.

  13. Any thing with beadboard is going to look fabulous! Can't wait to see the final results! Back in the 70s, we had a baby blue toilet! In the 80s, a peach colored one. Never had a taupe colored one, though!

  18. It will be great once it's done, I hope you can manage with company coming. Sometime men don't always think of those things but I say if he's ready to demo then get it rolling.

  21. We will have no problem sharing the upstairs bathroom. Ryan and I will stay in that bedroom, just to keep the kids from going in there. It's really not a problem at all.
