Details About My Hair

3.08.2015

I have gotten several emails and facebook messages asking me to share what I use on my hair and many have asked to see how  it is cut in the back. I guess y'all do only see the front. So today I'm answering those questions.

Let's start with a visit at my salon. Those roots have got to go! I have been going to Studio 93 Salon in my town of Buford for several years. I know a most of my readers are not in the metro Atlanta area, but if you are and if you are looking for a new salon then check out Studio 93. The staff and stylists are super friendly and the stylists stay up to date with all the latest techniques and styles.
This is my cute and quirky stylist, Tabby. She started her own fashion blog last year and you can check it out here

Alright, Tabby, work your magic!

Oh, what we go through. Ignore the deep lines that my bangs hide. :)

Here is a shot of the back and not too bad taking it myself.

Here is an example of the way mine is cut in the back. I have several more photos of pixie cuts on my Pinterest Board if you want to see more.

Ah, freshly colored hair or should I say bleached. My hair likes to go red and the color had been lifted as far as it could with color so that is why we recently started bleaching it and then adding toner and a glaze. I love the lighter look, but will be adding a few subtle low lights at my next visit. Not a lot just some to give more definition. My color is always a work in progress.

Since my salon mainly carries  Bumble & Bumble products I have been using the Seaweed shampoo since it is gentle and great for color treated hair. The styling lotion is what I spray on my damp hair before I blow dry it. You can order Bumble and Bumble on line from their own site or you can buy it at Sephora in their store or on line.

My salon also carries their own line of sulphate free products and I use the highlights shampoo to cut the brassiness my hair can get and I love the conditioner.

This is their product that I add a dab of to my bangs before drying since I actually have a bit of wave in my hair and I like my bangs straight. I also use a flat iron.

After my hair is dried I take a about a nickel size dab of the Sumotech moulding compound by Bumble and Bumble and rub it between both my hands till it melts into my skin and then I run my hands through my hair to give it some grit and separation. Then I just use my fingers to finish styling my hair.

To finish my hair I spray this fantastic smelling spray all over my hair. This gives my style some hold, but it is still movable.

I wash my hair every other day so I use this dry shampoo by Bumble and Bumble on the days I don't shampoo. I add a bit to any oily areas and at the roots for some lift. This adds some volume if the style has gone flat. I actually like my hair better the second day.

Now I'm ready to face the world.

If you live in or near Gwinnett county Georgia then be sure to check out my salon, Studio 93. My salon is even cool to look at with it's old wide planked squeaky floors and partially bricked walls since it is in a very old building. You can find them on facebook, too and see some of the hair styles they have done.
My stylist only works two days a week, but any of the stylists are very good.

Happy Sunday!

  4. Perfect! I just had my hair foiled. Find that works best for me since my hair is naturally curly like Kellys.
Never tried B&B or the other hair products. Love seeing what's out there.

    1. Yes, I was getting foils until just a few months ago. Got talked into bleaching it all over to get it as light as I wanted it.

  6. I love pixie cut and you pull it off flawlessly. I went pixie right after my divorce and before that my hair was down to my waist! I always say if I were brave enough I would go platinum blonde pixie. I can't imagine the amount of bleaching I would have to go through since my hair is jet black.

  8. i'm always glad to see you post info on your cut/color but would LOVE for you to do a short video of you drying and styling the cut. i'm a visual learner at best! i would love to see how you make it all fall to the front and it not leave a "hole" in the crown, the kind of brush(es) you use, etc......please consider doing a video Kim!

    1. Judy, no videos here. I don't even know how to video. I can tell you where to watch some great ones though. I have watched hers. Go to whippycake.com or google it and she has some great ones. She also wears a pixie and she is a hair stylist. Great videos of step by step and products she uses.

  9. That is a super cut..and she does a great job on the cut AND the color. My hair won't take color any more- so all I can do is lighten this one baseball sized round spot on the upper back part of my head to blend in with the rest of my hair. lol That is a good cut on you. My hair would look like a brillo pad if I cut it that short--lol

  13. You look marvelous darling ...
And the outfit and shoes is young and hip for your fun personality.
The salon sounds great, nothing like a hip place to put the spunk back into hair and mood. As for your shampoo, I too use Bumble and Bumble and love the product...seaweed is my choice as well, I use to be able to get it at out Target and often the sale on it was fabulous 1/2 off, does your Target carry it?

Well my dear you were your style fabulously, I would love to go blond I was born with very dark hair and have lived with it my whole life, I now match the colour to my roots when needing a touch up, yet would love to cut it shoulder length and go platinum with that grey silver tint to it, who knows maybe someday?

    Enjoy your cute fabulous you!

  15. Great cut and color!! You have an amazing head of very thick hair!! This is the perfect style for you. My hair is thin on top and when cut short, goes into frizz mode, so I keep it long. It keeps my head and neck warmer in the winter, I know that sounds funny but up here it makes a difference!! And I can wear it up or in a pony tail for warmer days. I really don't like to fuss much with my hair, other things to do!!! lol.....

  16. Cute cut Kim, and you did a great job of taking a photo of the back. I am a stylist also and only do clients out of my home now. I would love to go short with my hair again but the ponytail is so easy.

  23. I love your pixie cut! And I'm a huge fan of B&B!!! I find that it's a necessary evil for my curly hair. I started using it almost five years ago, but I just wish it wasn't so pricey. You look fabulous Kim!

  25. I love your haircut. My hair is thick and wavy - and dark. I've never changed my color other than highlights but now I've got some grey so a rinse in a lighter shade (my hair grabs color) turns those grey strands to highlights. Very low maintenance. I need lots of layers and texturizing. I use a frizz free gel and a finishing spray. Like you I use a good shampoo and conditioner (Redken) an the occasional deep conditioner. I also style with my fingers and pull my bangs straighter with a big brush. I only wash every other day but no oiliness, my hair leans toward dry. My hair has lightened a little but still dark brown. I hope I am one who will turn that beautiful, silver grey - but not for years! LOL
