Just Add Flowers

5.15.2015

Have you ever noticed how a room can go from just alright to ever so much better just by adding some pretty flowers? What is it about flowers that brings a room alive? I was given these beautiful peonies and roses from my daughter's yard last weekend and they have moved from room to room.

I have never had peonies before or smelled them and they smell divine.

The smell of these pale peach colored roses is wonderful, too.

These are the last three peony blooms this year from her bush and I sure am enjoying them.

My daughter doesn't remember the name of the roses, but they sure are pretty.

First I had these in the kitchen on the island. Then in the sun room and now I tucked the white vase inside the confit pot in the great room.

When the roses are fully opened they have many layers.

Yep, just add flowers and have a fabulous weekend!

  4. Yes! Fresh flowers and houseplants are a must! They bring so much to our homes. The peonies have been beautiful this year and are very popular in the south. The rose looks to be an English rose, perhaps a David Austin? You need to plant you some cutting flowers for fresh bouquets. Lilacs are another of my favorites and they also grow well in the south. Happy Weekend!

    1. tina, I have never seen a lilac or smelled them. They don't even sell them here. I have heard our humidity is too high for them. I wish we could grow them. I do want to plant some peony bushes.

  8. I agree, flowers just make your house a home. Love peonies. Growing up my mom would fill two large milk glass vases with them and the whole house smelled wonderful. Your peach roses are so very pretty too. I'm sorry you don't get to experience lilacs, just a few blooms can fill a room with beautiful fragrance.

  11. Oooh, I love those peonies!!! I can't believe you've never had some peonies before! Some of them smell so sweet and of course they looke like a little puddle of heaven with their whimsical petals. They are my favorite flower (hence the name of my blog... Peonies and Orange Blossoms). I haven't seen any in the store where I'm at, maybe they'll be there this weekend! Enjoy!!

  12. Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. I love them! I never saw them until I move to MA. The best is that they grow wild in my yard. I never planted a bush and I have lots of them. They just grow anywere. I transplant them to better spots in my front and back yard and they thrive!! They haven't bloomed here yet. I cannot wait as they make great bouquets and as you said they sure brighten any room you put them in!!

  13. Beautiful flowers.

I don't know anyone around me that grows peonies so I assume we don't have the right climate. But, I would love to have a bouquet of peonies in the house.

I must have flowers in the house. Right now I only have flowers in 4 rooms and I plan to change that after a visit to Trader Joe's today.

  24. Those flowers are absolutely gorgeous!! The colour really stands out, so beautiful. I love adding fresh flowers to any kind of room, and I find it works great all year round! I live in Canada, so sometimes in the dead of winter, you just need a vase of some fresh floral to remind you that spring will be back one day!
