Decorating With a Chippy Concrete Garden Urn

6.07.2015

After painting and moving the chippy cabinet to the guest room that left the top of the sideboard in the great room with a big blank spot. No problem, I knew just what I wanted to place there since I just bought this big concrete urn last weekend. Yes, the urn is normally used in the garden, but I love having this piece inside. It's good to bring the outdoors in.

I placed the urn in front of one of my vintage breadboards. This is the one I purchased in Asheville and it was only $40. I haven't ever paid that little for a vintage breadboard.

I love the way the green ivy looks spilling out over the urn.

This stack of old books with a pair of old binoculars sits next to the urn for more added texture and color.

I'm sure I will have fun moving (well, Mr. Savvy will since this thing is crazy heavy) this to other locations and filling it with different things.

Have a great week!

  2. Kim, your creativity in combining different textures into your decorating is lovely. Often it is the simplest details that you have used that add such beauty to your home.

  10. Love this chippy piece, inside or out, Kim It looks gorgeous sitting there on your sideboard, and all the details together make a stunning vignette. One word of caution though, and I offer this from personal experience ~ concrete and pottery are porous and can leave unwanted white spots on the table top. ;-( Believe me, it can happen even when you think you are careful.
It looks as if you have some protection so it doesn't scratch, but you may want to elevate it on sometype of riser to keep it well off the top of the chest.

  11. Love the old urns. I have two that were my mom's (she was an avid antiquer!) and they are on either side of the arbor leading off our patio. They are the same style but "squattier" and bigger around. Right now they are filled with ivy and pink begonias. Something about ivy in an urn. Looks great on your sideboard.

  13. I really enjoy bringing elements of the outside in. The urn looks fantastic! You are so brave to move things around as frequently as you do. Sometimes, I worry about moving things. Will I "ruin" a good vignette with something that isn't as pleasing? However, you are inspiring me to have more courage and let my creativity shine. Thanks.

  19. I LOVE it... Couldnt be a better combo than a chippy urn and ivy....I had planned to bring mine indoors, also. What did you use on the bottom to protect the furniture?
