Just Add Shells....summer great room

6.19.2015

I hope y'all enjoyed the bHome summer open house tours this week. Today is the last day for them and the links from all week are at the bottom of the post.

There was no way I could share my whole house in my tour yesterday, unless you wanted to read it for way too long, so today I'm sharing how I added summer style in my great room.

This was the only peek of the great room from the kitchen in my tour yesterday.

This is the view coming in from the foyer.

I don't do much to the mantel since I let the artwork shine so I just added to simple candlesticks and a chunk of driftwood.

I just added some more shells and things in here like I did in the rest of the house.

I first had stock flowers in this vase and then replaced them with hydrangeas from my bush that finally bloomed this year after only a couple blooms last year. It still isn't bursting with blooms, but some are better than none. I added them to this cool vase I found at HomeGoods.

I filled the ironstone bowl that has been in this same spot with some collected shells and other beach items that I had saved in my stash.

This large shell was found on our short trip to Alabama a few weeks ago in the same booth I found the coral.

Everything was placed in this seagrass basket that was also stored away. This basket just looks like summer to me so I replaced the bamboo tray with this one.

Pillows are always changed out....I told you I have a pillow problem. :)

I pulled the light blue Pottery Barn covers out of my stash and added the green checked pillows from French Laundry Home along with my favorite cow pillow. I love how these colors tie in with the painting over the mantel.

So if you need an easy way to say summer in your home I say just add shells.

Have a fabulous weekend!

  2. Your bowl of pretty shells definitely adds a touch of summer to your room. I love your blue hydrangeas. Mine aren't blooming yet. So, I have fake ones on my coffee table. LOL!

    1. Yes, I plan on getting some sand and adding a candle next. The flowers are not lasting.

  7. Love your style! It's an easy casual elegance that appeals to the soul as much as it does to the eye. I only wish I could fly you to my house so you can give me advise on my own home or better yet, redo! Sometimes I feel like I've got the elements, I certainly don't need MORE stuff...I just need to shake it up...You know what I mean, I need a fresh pair of expert eyes. LOL Thanks for sharing your lovely home.

    1. Cindy, this years blooms aren't even staying fresh long after cutting them and I even tried a new method I read on pinterest. I have dried blooms from three years ago that I use over and over. All I did for those was let the water evaporate that they were displayed in and they dried beautifully. This year the flowers have wilted and I threw them away. Go figure.
