The Other Project in the Master Reveal

6.08.2015

Do you remember when I told y'all about the armoire found on craigslist and I said besides fixing that up I was also working on another project? Well, today I'm sharing that project and I do believe this is my favorite painted piece I have done and as y'all know I have painted quite a few.

This is a sneak peek I gave y'all and I think many of you thought I was painting the armoire.

But it wasn't the armoire I was painting it was my big brown dresser that I have wanted to paint for quite some time, but since all the other pieces in here were painted I needed one piece that wasn't painted to anchor the room.

The armoire became the anchor so that meant I could go ahead and paint my dresser. In fact the room felt off balance with the armoire and the dresser both dark and fairly close to each other because nothing dark was on the other side of the room to balance it.

I mixed a custom color using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in Chateau Gray mixed with Amy Howard One Step Paint in Luxe Gray. The Chateau Gray is very green and the Luxe Gray is a very light gray and the two mixed made a pretty pale green.

I only painted the area around the drawers and doors in the custom color and the rest is Luxe Gray.

Clear and dark waxes were used to age the piece.

I used Gilder's Paste in Inca Gold on all the handles and I rubbed some on the decorative parts of the dresser.

I left the top in the original finish. Just ignore the dust, please.

I'm loving the way the finish turned out.

Here is what it looked like before.

I like the new look more.
The light is awful in our bedroom this time of year.

No expensive furniture was harmed. This was from a bedroom suite bought at Haverty's many years ago.

  2. I have struggled with our bedroom furniture myself. Every piece in our bedroom was mis-matched (by choice) antique piece other than our metal bed. All stained wood. I felt like it was too "hodge-podge". I bought two plain, inexpensive 3 drawer chests and painted them (chalk paint) for use as bed side chests. Nightstands and matching lamps I feel helped pull the other pieces together. Dresser and armoire are still stained wood along with a small side chair and a chest at end of bed. I do like your dresser painted. LOVE the top left stained. You are very talented with your painting!!

  25. What a beautiful new look for your dresser! Wish I had the nerve to paint my dresser. I'd be happy just to remove the attached mirror. I need a helper or a partner in projects to get a few things done around my house!
