Patiently Waiting

1.19.2016

Patience is not one of my virtues. When I want something I want it yesterday so it is really hard for me to wait for a custom order.

I have been waiting for a phone call about a custom order that should have been in  already, but I ended up calling them to check on it. January 9th was the approximate date given so I waited till this week to call and check on the status.

I have mentioned in the past that I am weeding out the red and that the red sofa and chair will be leaving. I thought they would have left by now, but there is a hold up with the fabric I chose so now the date has been pushed out to February 24th. Not what I wanted to hear.
I don't have a chair ordered, but this one will go along with the sofa since I want the brick red removed. Believe it or not I have had these since 2001!
I'm waiting on the new sofa to sit in the room so I can make a decision for a chair or use one I have from another room.

When I ordered my Pottery Barn basic slipcover sofa a gazillion years ago it was very late arriving. I called to check on it and the slipcover was in, but they could not locate the frame and they were making me wait because they couldn't find it. Well, I don't need a slip without a frame and I was so irritated that I told them just to cancel it and then all of a sudden they said they would ship one out right away. One week later I had my new sofa.

I ordered a new slip for it a few months ago and again that is an eight week wait, but at least it came on time.

I prefer to buy something that is ready right away.

Do you have patience waiting on an order?

I am also patiently waiting to party tonight!
Hope to see y'all back here tonight for Wow Us Wednesdays.

Thanks for all the sun room love yesterday!

  1. You gotta love it...that stuff drives me crazy too! But, I just always tell myself that for whatever reason this is happening, it's suppose too:) They always say, "Good things happen to those that wait". :) I'll keep my fingers crossed!

  2. I have no patience for waiting! Last week I ordered 2 custom chairs....it will be 4 long weeks before they arrive. I hope it is only 4 long weeks before they arrive!

  4. OMG.....I soooo cannot wait for things that need to be ordered, either! And how many times, just like you mentioned, does it get pushed waaaaay back for delivery. Seriously, there are times I change my mind on things because I want it now and then I end up....settling, which makes me upset I did it that way.

    1. Why oh why can't they get things out on time? Pure torture. I usually just settle, too, but this time I didn't and now I wait.

  5. I'm pretty patient because I don't like to settle. I want "what I want". If I remember correctly, I think every sofa we have had has been a custom order (other than the very first one we had when we started out). Just tell yourself it is worth the wait!!

  6. I hate waiting too, especially when it is something we are very excited over like you...Well, before you know it, it will be arriving at your front door...but I think the worst "waiting game" was when we were waiting for our container from France to come...that was torture!

  7. I will only buy items that are in the store at Pottery Barn. I have had so many delays and issues with Pottery Barn if I have to place an order that it is not worth the hassle.

  8. I ordered an office chair and extra slip in early december- they said I'd have both by Jan. 20th.. both arrived on jan. 2nd-- so maybe your order will arrive sooner than the said it would.
    I also, have little patience:)

  9. I keep hearing about delays with Pottery Barn, makes me never want to order from them.
I didn't know that they are "sister" stores with Williams-Sonoma and West Elm....I wonder if Williams-Sonoma is any better at orders??
In any case, I hope that your order comes soon...

    1. It's not Pottery Barn this time. It's another well known furniture store.

  10. Shops always give you a date and then miss it. I hate waiting and don't know why they are always late.

  11. I ordered a custom made sofa, chair and extra throw pillows last fall from Bassett. They say it takes 30 days, but the designer said 45 to be safe. Much to my surprise my furniture was ready in about 20 days. And I wasn't prepared...I still had to find some rugs!

  12. maybe it is delayed so you can have the red for valentine's day. I can not wait for things to come so I have to really want or need it to wait for it to be delivered.

  13. I hate waiting too, but my hubby is even worse. He tracks EVERY thing he orders and I have actually seen him pacing the foyer waiting for the UPS guy! They are on a first name basis:):) Hope you get the sofa SOON!!!!

  14. Good gosh...I've waited 8 weeks before for a custom piece but knew that ahead of time. By this time next year you will have forgotten and it will be worth the wait. Hang in there...as they say Patience is a Virtue. The way time flies it will be here soon.

  15. Unfortunately, patience isn't one of my strong points either, though I am working on it! Can't wait to see what you ordered!

  16. What you are describing happens all the time with trade-only design resources, too, not just retail level. They often get the order wrong, deliver it late, and if it is custom made, usually will not take it back or make good on the fabric if it is COM. The designer has to make it right with the client, so guess who gets stuck with something they have to find another way to unload. This is why I got out of the business. The creative part is great, but the business end is too nerve-wracking.

  17. Can't wait to see your new sofa Kim. I hate waiting to once I finally decide to order something. I kept hemming and hawing over a new sofa and now that I am ready to break down and buy it found out it is discontinued.

  18. Patience is not MY strong suit either Kim!
Can't wait to see your new selections- I'm sure they're inCREDible, you have such gOOd taste!

  19. If this is the worst situation you have to deal with this new year consider yourself blessed and be thankful! I'm sure you'll find another project to take up your time and when the slipcover and fabric come in you'll pick that up again! Don't worry/be happy!

  20. I feel your pain. I ordered several new pillow covers online a couple months ago, because they were not in the stores yet. Well, now they are and I still don't have mine. I would cancel the order and just purchase from the store but I ordered with a discount! UGH!!

  21. No, I am not patient at all!

I have been ill and not reading blogs so I am just noticing the changes on your blog. I really like the look.

  22. Kim, I have no patience for waiting. I've ordered things from Joss and Main and always end up waiting. T'hat's why I love brick and mortar stores where the product is in stock and I can take it home with me. Unfortunately, whenever I order furniture, I have to custom order the fabric to get what I want and it entails waiting. Can't wait to see what you're doing with your living room. I still have my red couch but am lightening everything else up. It will be awhile for me to get a new couch so I do have to wait which I hate.

  23. Waiting is soooooo hard! I need a new chair and I dread the thought of getting a new one. I had chairs recovered this fall and it took a very long time--too long to have the chair redone.
I know everything is going to look so pretty when everything is in place!

  24. I'm glad I'm not the only one. It drives me ABSOLUTELY NUTS to wait, especially when the new ETA is weeks and weeks after what I was promised. Grrr. Hope everything arrives soon:-)

  25. It's the same the world over. We in Australia have long delays and also high shipping costs. It always amuses me that I can buy and ship something from the US quicker and cheaper than buying local or interstate. I recently wanted fabric for cushions (throw pillows) which was going to be a 21 day wait. I bought it in the US for a third of the cost and had it in 4 days. Who has the patience to wait 21 days for a few metres of material? I am currently on a wait of 13 weeks for 2 new sofas. So frustrating but I did get 50 per cent off in the New Year sales. Love reading you, Kim.

  26. I'm trying to patiently wait for our new chairs. It isn't easy! They aren't due yet, but their arrival would sure lighten the Winter blahs!
