Red and Gray Farmhouse Guest Room

2.22.2016

Can you believe spring is only a few weeks away? We have been having some very spring like weather lately. I'm sure it will get cold again though. Before the spring decorating commences I figured I would share the farmhouse style guest room in it's winter look this year since it has been this way since Christmas.

If you are new here this is the room I have fun with and add the farmhouse style that I would love to do a whole house in if we ever downsize.

I'm using grays and reds in flannel and cotton using things I have on hand. This plaid duvet cover from L.L. Bean that I bought a couple years ago is so soft. I wish I had a shirt made out of it.

I love to mix patterns. The gray checked pillows are also flannel and mix well with the ticking, stripes, and plaid on the bed.

Sign and painting from different antique fairs.

I keep saying I'm going to add casters to the bottom of the trunk to lift it up and I forget to buy any. So I use stacked books to raise the lamp up.

This barn wood framed barn winter scene will soon be replaced with something for spring or just put away until next winter. This old trunk was one of Mr. Savvy's and my first antique purchases a gazillion years ago for $35. It is in it's original condition. I need to show y'all the inside some time. I haven't looked in it in years.

The Pottery Barn striped chair moved to this room from the sun room since I have removed the red from that room for now.

Tattered quilts sit on the worn red bench.

This room is what I call collected farmhouse.

I'm meeting some fellow bloggers today for lunch.
Y'all have a good one!

  13. Red the new neutral here with you, you have a way of carrying out a tone on tone feel and the touches of red fit seamlessly right in place.
This is a wonderful guest room, and I know I have told you this many time before.
Looking forward to what spring brings.
Maybe a bit of spring fever and we see some surprises with you here.
You always have a way with a build up to a surprise or two here.

Cheers to spring days ahead of you.

  21. Yes, how is Miss Bailey? I hope her recovery is going quickly and she'll be scooting about soon. About the guest room: I am not ordinarily a fan of red in decorating, but I find this room quite charming and cheerful and cozy. I can imagine snuggling down under the blankets on a really snowy night and sleeping like a bear in a cave.
And I LOVE the cow painting over the bed. She is just so--"cow-y"! Nice decrating, Kim!

    1. Bailey is good and is already trying to scoot until she realizes she is tied to her crate. Three more weeks and she will be running freely again.

  22. i have that same trunk...bought from an antique store on ventura blvd in Encino when I was in college.... I was driving by and it was out in front of the store.... I did not know how to parallel park very well so it was high stress to park.... but I wanted that trunk. It has the original steamer labels that i carefully painted around... think i had it olive green.... then yellow ..... wish i knew where to use it in my home now... it is sadly in the garage.....
