Decor Ideas for the Fireplace After Winter

3.17.2016

We don't really use our fireplace to burn wood since we have a crack in the floor of it so I like to keep it filled with different things. For those of you lucky enough to burn a fire you can still try these ideas for the warmer seasons.

Fill a vintage market basket with dried hydrangeas.

I have filled another basket with magnolia branches from my neighbor's trees.

Then I got this cool urn and filled it with dried hydrangeas.

For the last several months it has been filled with pine cones and evergreen branches. Well, it was time for a change since spring is almost here.

Since my dried hydrangeas have seen better days and were tossed out I had to come up with something else. So I decided to use moss covered balls.

I was going to buy styrofoam balls and some sheets of moss and cover them myself, but then I found these at Michael's already done for me and cheaper than what it would have cost to diy them.

So I tucked the balls in some loose moss that I bought and voila a new look for the fireplace.

Oh, and since the balls are green I guess they are perfect for St. Patrick's Day today.

All these ideas are so simple to create and only take a few minutes so add a little spring to your fireplace.

Have an awesome day!

  2. I have two of those "cool urns" that I inherited from my mom. My sister also got 2 of them! (See where I get my love of all things old LOL). I use them outside. I can't use something like that in my fireplace as we have glass doors. Bummer your fireplace floor is cracked!

    1. Tina, this is one of those lightweight urns. I do have a smaller old chippy concrete one, too and would love to get more.

    2. Oh wow - it looks real! I know some use the concrete ones inside too - and I wouldn't mind - but I need them on either side of my arbor! LOL

  4. We have a gas fireplace and I adore it in the winter, but in the spring and summer it's just a big black hole...not pretty. I am always looking for ways to make it prettier. I am going to aim for adding some green this year! Thanks!

  5. First I hope you are feeling better! I had a little accident last night too: got rear ended sitting at a red light! This is the second time I have gotten rear ended sitting at a red light! BE CAREFUL out there! Now, I love all the ways you have filled your pretty urn. We have a gas fireplace and a door so I just decorate the hearth:) Have a great day!!!

  10. Hi Kim hope you are feeling better, love your ideas about the fireplace décor. Did you know that there are fireplace inserts electric and gas, might want to check them out. I have one because I live in Florida, no fire, just a great visual of wood burning and a nice crackling sound. Just a thought!
