Oh, Yes I Did

3.10.2016

Y'all remember my sideboard that I have shared many times over the last six years? This is one of the first pieces I painted after Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® came to the states. It was painted in Old White first, but I didn't like it so then I painted over it in Chateau Gray with heavy distressing and it has been that way ever since. This is also my very first antique purchase many years ago.

Well, it isn't this color anymore and I know some of you are going to say oh no you didn't,.....

...but oh, yes I did!

My photos make it look much bluer and brighter than it looks in person.

I used some Miss Mustard Seed Milk paint I had on hand and the main color is Bergere.

After two coats of paint I started using hemp oil mixed with dark wax over the blue which was way too light. I took this shot to show how the dark oil really changed it.

I painted over the fabric that I added years ago and then took a lot of it back off so you could barely make out the scene as if it had faded over many years.

Also with some sanding it looked more worn. I also did a wash over the entire sideboard here and there with the color Mora. You can see that on the raised details.

The green color wasn't going to work well with my new plans in this room so blue gray it is.

The rug came in and I love it. I shared a peek of it on instagram.

Still waiting on the accent chair to arrive. Should be any day now.

Have a good one!

  3. It looks beautiful Kim. I love the way you made the fabric look timeworn and the color is really pretty too. It looks authentically aged.

  5. I am heartbroken!! My favorite piece. Huge fan of the green. I'm sure once the room is complete and see it all tied together it will be stunning, as is all the furniture you paint... For now, I'm sad 😩

  16. You are so talented with things like this. I liked it before but I can understand if the coloring doesn't make you happy then it's time to move on. It really does look like a very old piece- great job!

  20. I love blues and grays so I really love the way you mixed all the colors and finishes to achieve this look. I loved the fabric you added to the doors before, so I am going to miss that a little bit. Although I know once I see the whole room put together this change is going to make a lot of sense and it is going to look amazing in the newly redesigned family room!

  31. I like the color it was and the new color. I'd have preferred a light wash over the art portion instead of covering it so much, but that's what's so wonderful about this blog. It's yours to do with as you please!

  32. Nothing ventured nothing gained! And I love it!!! I also love that the fabric image is still there only not as bold. I am the same way...can't have anything stay the same for too long...I like change. Can't wait to see your finished space!
