Adding Those Extra Touches

4.14.2016

In the past I have not been one to keep flowers on my coffee table, but this year that changed. Maybe it's the new coffee table making me want to add some pretties to it or the whole room's new look overall. I think flowers just brighten up a room and we should treat ourselves with those extra touches sometimes.

This week I changed from the glass vase I was using to this large white vase and filled it with greenery from Whole Foods. Greenery instead of flowers works to add some pretty, too.

When I bought four bunches of tulips I also picked up this greenery thinking I would use them together. Well, no, I didn't need anything with the tulips.

So there I was with two bunches of greenery and I needed to use them somewhere somehow. I'm loving the added greenery on the table.

Last week I filled this glass vase with ranunculus that I scored at Whole Foods. I had never bought any before. I shared these on instagram.

These were the first flowers I shared. The vignette in the basket keeps changing a bit, too except for the books and beads.

I just got this old French bread basket in the mail that I ordered from an etsy shop. It's smaller than other baskets I have seen like this, but it was only $20 and the ones a bit larger can be $100.

It is worn in a few places, but that is normal wear with use and age. Now I have this round one and I have the old baguette one, too.

Do you like to surround yourself with those extra touches like flowers or just some cut greenery?

Happy Thursday!

  1. The greenery and the flowers look so pretty in that spot. I keep a basket like that on my coffee table as well but whenever I put anything too high there, my husband moves it so he can see the TV better...ugh. Your room looks so nice and springy!

  14. Love the room, and I love fresh flowers or greenery, even if from my yard! I have told my family and friends, give me flowers now, not after I am gone, that may sound funny, but I am serious! Happy Thursday, Kim.

  16. This room looks very inviting. Nice tranquil ambiance. I can imagine curling up in the recliner with a book for the afternoon. And the greenery and flowers add just the right touch. I love having plants and flowers in my house. Right now I have an African violet blooming and a little vase of just three daffodils and some of their leaves from my yard. The smell of the daffs makes me so happy and tells me Spring is on it's way. Yay for flowers!

    1. Susan, I'm not sure what they are called. I bought them at the Paris Market in Savannah last year and they are from some kind of tree in France and were a dollar apiece. I love the texture of them.

  19. Kim, I've been reading and enjoying your blog for a long time. Actually, it's the first one I read in the morning! I chalk paint also, and often look to your pieces for inspiration. One question I've been meaning to ask you is...Why and when do you use hemp oil? I use it frequently on unpainted pieces, but never, as you do, on painted pieces. I appreciate your help. I can't wait to see your next project! (my email: cjwatson.watson@gmail.com if you prefer answering that way)

    1. Cathie, I learned about it from Miss Mustard Seed, Marian, since she uses it with her milk paint and it works with chalk paint, too. I still use wax on some pieces, but the oil is so much easier to use and no buffing. Thanks

  21. I love flowers, and I buy them when my garden doesn't have any to offer me. I keep a clear glass wall pocket tacked to the wood trim between my two kitchen windows. That's where I arrange my flowers, which are a real mood brightener for me.

    1. I bought those several years ago at a local antique market. The fabric can still be found. It's Bosporus toile by P. Kauffman.
