Sun Room Spring 2016

4.05.2016

Every season I like to change up the decor in my rooms, but especially the sun room since this is the room I spend the most time in. This year most of the red is gone, and yes I know that upsets some of y'all, but this is my home and I have to do what makes me feel good. Right now I want lighter and calmer with a few pops of color tossed in and I think that is exactly what I have created.

New colors have been added this year. I already had the blue velvet PB pillows and then saw these gorgeous floral pillows by PB, too that are new this year.

I needed one more pillow so I got the a blush colored velvet one to tie the colors together.

Here is the only red. I'm not using this cow painting in the guest room and realized I could use it in the sun room since the cow has many of the same colors that are in the pillows. A win win!

I added a blue and white jar filled with pink flowering branches on top of the stacked trunks.

I replaced the little round metal table with this table that I have had for years.

This color ties in well with the pillows on the sofa.

Pottery Barn had done a very smart thing. See the floral pillow?

The flip side is this navy and white ikat. Two looks for the price of one!

The tufted ottoman has been replaced with this very worn wooden bench that I bought last year for the deck. I gave it a fresh coat of milk paint in Mora and hoped it would chip, but it didn't.

I always have live greenery in this sunny room. I added this ivy to a vintage French egg basket.

Light and bright with a few pops of color.
Perfect!

  11. Every change you make to this room looks great year after year. I really like the new look too. It's great to move things around and change things up for a fresh look.

  12. I love the two tuffted back occasional chairs. Do you think they are still available from the maker? Also, are you adding a patterned rug under the white coffee table bench? You have white tile which I love but you have a white solid rug over it.

    1. The chairs were ordered from overstock.com a few years ago. No, I'm not planning on adding a patterned rug anytime soon. I want a neutral background and less of a busy look right now and it's not in the budget to get a rug.

    2. Actually the rug is a cream and the bench is a pale gray.

  13. I'm with you, I'm ready for the red to be gone and in fact I've gotten rid of most of it in my house. Almost can't believe that, but I'm loving the light and bright look - and that's just what friends are saying when they come into my re-decorated den - light and bright. It's become my favorite room and I'm practically living in it now. Great job with your sun room.

    1. Mary, it's funny how our taste changes. I know mine certainly has. I used to love to be surrounded by red and now I don't.

  14. Kim, I LOVE love love the lighter look! Of course the bolder colors are nice too, but this looks so fresh and welcoming. It would be fun to even try it without the pops (just for one pic... ;-)) and see it really calm and pale. Love your little table as well as the planter on it! What a wonderful room to spend time in!!

  15. Oh I do miss your red, but this looks gorgeous as well:) However, I know that red is one of those bold colors that can overwhelm at times too. Everything that you do always looks fantastic, Kim:) Have a wonderful day!

  18. I do love the pillows. I looked back at all the years you gave links to. I loved the blue plates and the red checked curtains because of the color that's in there but your new look is a nice change. That's one thing nice about a neutral room- it allows flexibility!

  19. The cow painting looks great with the PB pillows...a lovely space!

  21. As always your home looks so pretty and inviting. I love red, and I love the calmer colors you are using. I am always amazed at how opinionated some of us are about someone else's home. I LOVE seeing what you do with YOUR home but I would NEVER tell you that I did not like a choice you made it is YOUR home, you and Mr. Savvy have to live there. We just have the good fortune to be able to take a sneek peek, and maybe once in a while take some of your wonderful choices and make them our own.. So keep decorating anyway you want, I love change and our home is ever evolving also... sending Blessings from Sunny California.... Curtis & Sherrie.

  28. I think your sun room is my favorite room in your house with your den running a close 2nd. I've slowly done away with all the red in my house, it used to be everywhere but like you my tastes changed and it was time for a more calming look.

Have you seen the pillow covers at Hobby Lobby? They have a huge selection and are very reasonable, especially when you use the 40% coupon. The only problem is they are usually for a 12x12 pillow insert and I like my pillows larger, either 18x18 or even a little bigger. So I use the smaller pillows on the deck or bench on my front porch.

    Have a great week Kim!

  30. Its so strange and funny that I seem to have an emotional reaction to the loss of so much red! I'm seeking help, though, so you go right ahead and decorate your home anyway you'd like (: The pops of midnight blue are really sharp and that seems to be helping me thorugh too. Every year, I'm really drawn to those classic blues and blue/white. As always, your home is an inspiration. Thanks for sharing.
