The Other Side of the Deck Reveal

5.23.2016

I received an email the first week of April that said "Martha Stewart patio/possible make over." I was like dang that's only a year too late since we made over the deck last summer and I had already bought furniture for us to lounge on. But, wait, I thought! What about a table and chairs so we can dine alfresco which we haven't done in many many years? So they agreed and I was the lucky recipient of this beautiful table and chairs and an outdoor rug.

As soon as I knew this was coming I started cleaning and painting the windows that I never got around to last summer. There's nothing like new furniture coming to make me get things done.

This is the Lake Adela 7 piece dining set by Martha Stewart Living™ sold at homedecorators.com and Home Depot. I chose the neutral color cushions to go with our seating area cushions, but there are other color options to choose from.

The cushions attach to the chair with straps and velcro.

The next thing I had to do was go shopping for some outdoor dinnerware.

I may have less color in the house these days, but there is no lack of color out here. A trip to HomeGoods and I found everything I needed to add to what I already had. These colorful melamine plates were too pretty to pass up and then I found the napkins with the same colors.

The square place mats and the bowls are new. I already had the wicker charger and napkin rings. I picked up the bowls three weeks after finding the other things. I love how all the patterns and colors work together even though none of it is a matching set.

These clear glasses area also plastic. These days you can't tell until you pick them up.

I chose this round orange and white thick rope like place mat for the end of the table and a different plate continuing with the same colors.

I tucked the bamboo type flatware that I already had in each napkin ring.

When I stopped back in HomeGoods a few weeks later I saw these cute colored candles that go so well with the colors I was using on the table so I grabbed a blue, green, and orange. After I got home I realized they are citronella candles which will help keep the mosquitoes at bay.

I had ordered a pair of these fun outdoor pillows back in March long before I knew that I was getting the table and chairs. I had purchased them for the seating area, but it's nice to be able to use them at the table, too.

The chairs are really light and are easy to slide in and out, but also quite comfy. The table is very easy to move, too.

If you are very observant you may have noticed there are only five chairs at the table. The length of the table, which is great, is a little tight on our deck so I took one of the end chairs out and placed it in the seating area. We only had five eating out a couple weekends ago so I didn't need this chair at the table. I pushed the table up to the wall of the house which made more room. If we have six we can just slide the table back and add the chair.

Since no one was sitting at this end I used the other orange place mat and set a plate on it for some of the food we ate and put a wicker food cover over it to keep any bugs out.

Just for fun I hung my vintage apple picking bucket with some lavender tucked in.

Sun is starting to set.

Time to light the candles.

A bit darker and the string lights are plugged in.

And time to eat. So fun eating outside as it gets dark.

My view from the sofa.
The furniture from last year and this new set are very similar in color and work perfectly together. Love when that happens.

Now we can dine alfresco a few times before it gets too hot.

Soon I will share the other side of the deck and more night shots.

  2. Beautiful, Kim! Love the new furniture. Are the hot pink lanterns on your deck railing solar? Mind if I ask where you found them? I'm in need of something like that for our deck.

    1. Sharon, those are just ceramic lanterns from Pottery Barn last year that take a candle. I wish they were solar. Thanks

  4. I love looking at outdoor living areas, but I live in North Texas, and all that would blow away and be covered with dirt that blows in from West Texas. I admire, then picture it blowing down my hill and that is the end of that. Lovely alfresco dining set, though!
