Adding Summer Around the House

6.19.2016

It's so easy to add summer style in your home. I grab my saved shell collection each summer and scatter it here and there in bowls, baskets or other vessels. I also like to use my pieces of coral, that normally stay in the master bath on the hutch the rest of the year, and add them around the house. And of course flowers. My choice are the hydrangeas from my bush since they are free.

Blue hydrangeas are perfect in a red trimmed enamelware coffee pot.

Oh, yea I like to used my sea fans, too.

Fishing floats tucked in a favorite bowl.

This is what I bought while out antiquing last week to escape the heat. Got a great deal on this large round wooden bowl. Only $35 when most are over $100. A bowl like this can be used year round to hold different collections.

So grab those bowls, baskets, coffee pots, etc. and add some summer around the house.

Have a great day and Happy Father's Day to all dads!

  3. If I can't be at the beach, I love to do the same as you. Adding beauty from the sea brings my home peace, calm, and serenity when I view them. Like the calming feeling I get when I breathe in the beach air. Love your collections and vignettes. Love your new wooden bowl. Compliments your home well. Happy Sunday, thank you for sharing.

  5. Living in a coastal style home (though not on the coast) in Florida, I keep some of these accents out year round. They do make you feel like it summer, don't they! I love the sea fan! I head over to Tarpon Springs, Florida for great deals on shells and the like!

  7. Beautiful homage to summer Kim. Beautiful displays.
I put my shells out last month, as soon as the temperatures heated up here in North Central Florida . Summer is our longest season in spite of what the calendar says. Hahaha.
After seeing your fan, I will have to seek some out on our vacation next week.

  8. I love using sea fans around the house, we have an amazing one that retained it's deep purple colour which we found in Jamaica and amazingly we got it home in one piece!

  9. Wooden bowls are one of my weaknesses. That was a good price.

  13. All pretty touches for summer, Kim. I like to put out my group of Nantucket baskets, and my little group of shell boxes. We are aren't near the beach, but it gives a little nod to summer.

  14. I am seriously loving that container that the sea fans are in! I love the texture with the white and just the shape of it. Is it something I might find somewhere or a more serendipitous find?

    1. Naomi, I believe you are referring to the coral in the bowl. That bowl was bought over 35 years ago while on vacation somewhere.

    2. I meant urn, not bowl and I have two of those. They were black and I painted them.

  15. We have so many shells from all the years of our kid collecting them at the beach. Though Mediterranean beaches draw so many people they're pretty picked over.
I love your blue hydrangeas. Mine reverted to pink. I guess I didn't give them the right fertilizer.
