Late Summer Sun Room Changes

8.29.2016

The sun room has undergone some updates.....again and I wanted to share how the room looks now before transitioning into fall. There are more pops of color and some furniture pieces have been brought in from other spots in the house.

First thing you will notice are the new curtains. These are just like the ones in the farmhouse style guest room. They are just so cute and so cheap that I had to have them in here, too.

As soon as I started shooting this room Miss Bailey hopped up to her usual spot to nap.

A couple of new blue pillows and grain sack pillows may have wondered in. The patterned one is new.

These two are not new.

The two kuboo chairs have been replaced with this bench. As you can see the stacked wicker baskets, that were moved to the guest room, have been replaced with the old trunk that used to be in the guest room and then was moved to my stash room. Nice having a stash to pull from.

We purchased this trunk way back in the 70's at a little gas station turned junk shop. This was one of my first antique finds and it's still in its original condition.

I brought my old rustic bird house out of storage.

This birdhouse has been used in many rooms over the years and I start to let it go and then I hang onto it a bit longer.

I'm using a vintage breadboard again to make a level surface on the trunk.

I picked up this pretty ironstone pitcher in one of the shops in Cashiers. The shop looked like a brocante in France and I was surprised to find something at a reasonable price.

My giant dough bowl fits perfectly under the bench.

This is a new grain sack pillow. I love how this one was made folding over the end with the string and leaving it in tact instead of cutting that off and throwing it away.

I moved one of the kuboo chairs to this side of the room where the bench was sitting.

As you can see I also brought this little coffee table back in.
It was sitting in the garage.

So after shopping the house and adding a couple of new things this room has its 1000th change.....just kidding.

I can't believe it is almost September. As soon as it is let the fall decorating begin!

See how the room looked a year ago here.

  1. I love that trunk and the new pitcher. The blues look so soothing in there too. This has always been one of my favorite rooms I have seen anywhere and no matter what you change, it always ends up looking beautiful. You truly have a magic touch!

  2. I love the blues, Kim! Looks so relaxing in there. Abi does the same thing as Bailey. Dives into every photo. Maybe it's a female thing. Charlie shuns the camera.

    1. Usually Bailey stays put, but she hopped right up there and then I had to make her get down to continue shooting the pics.

  6. I saw a pile of grain sacks at a vide grenier last weekend. I was very tempted, but they were the real deal--very old and rather dirty, though nice and large with interesting labels printed--and I wasn't sure I'd be able to get them into a usable condition. €10 apiece.
I did, however, get some antique sheets: €2 apiece for a double bed. I'd paid more a few months ago elsewhere, so I was proud of my score!

    1. Yes, I paid your price when I was in France for one. Here they run around $45 and up. I got this pair of pillows made from old grain sacks and cleaned with the down inserts for $98.

  7. Lovin' the changes Kim! That's how my girls like to lay on the sofa. Our back cushions are permanently slouched no matter how many times I try to fluff them. ;)

    1. Mary, one of these days I am going to get a new insert for the end cushions since she has squished them.

  14. This is my favorite room to see. I know I'd be using it a lot if I had one like this. I like the changes you made. That dough bowl looks perfect with the magazines in it and placed under the bench. I had a picture of a farmhouse kitchen that had curtains that looked like yours and always wondered where I could find them. My mom picked up a trunk very similar to yours when we were kids. It's a green color with wood accents. My sister took it to her house and uses it kind of like you are now. I've lost track of how many changes I've made in the living room... Probably don't want to really know!

  16. Kim, I just have to chuckle when I open your post and you have again shuffled furniture and decor around in your house. I've never known anyone who "re-did" things so often! I'm lucky if I switch some things around once a year! It's very enjoyable watching it happen at your house, though. I really like the more neutral colors and textures in your sun room. It looks so fresh and calming. What is the flower pot that you have sitting on the bread board on the trunk made of? It looks like a raku pottery. I like it's look a lot.

I'll be looking forward to what you change around for Fall!

    1. Naomi, I guess when I stop changing things up I'll stop blogging, too. :)
The black pot is just a clay pot I picked up in a local shop. I wish I had gotten more sizes. Now, they don't have them anymore.

  17. Love your pillows. Great idea for the breadboard, to level off a surface. I have a few of those in my storage unit, must get them out for some accessorizing.
