Seeing Orange

10.20.2016

Seeing orange and blue and green.....and. I know I just shared the great room recently dressed for fall, but y'all know I can't leave well enough alone. Things just come over me and I go with the flow so a few small changes took place in this room. After I made the changes I glanced across the room, while standing at the kitchen sink,  I realized I was seeing orange. Now, I have never been a huge orange fan, but I can handle it in small not in your face doses. The oranges I see in here are muted and not your bright Crayola orange.

The main change I made was rearranging the top of the coffee table. I replaced the tray basket that was here before along with a couple of stacks of books to adding more stacks of books along with my magnifying glass collection and other collectibles.

I have been adding more of my majolica here and there. I just shared my plates I set out in the sitting room. Majolica can be costly, but most of my pieces are not in mint condition. Some are chipped and that make the pieces affordable.

Instead of just having a stack of books sitting on the table I like to add something to the top of some of the stacks. I started collecting magnifying glasses several years ago and I really don't know why I'm attracted to them. Mr. Savvy uses them quite a bit and I do occasionally for super tiny print that I cannot read with my contacts.

Brass is big this year and I bought this brass key a couple of years ago for a really good price. I had seen a brass key just like this one for sale on One Kings Lane for $100, but I paid around $20.

I'm still in love with the large striped pillow because it works with so many other pillows and patterns like this newest addition that I got for free from Pottery Barn. Yep, it was on sale and I had a $25 reward certificate to use. Free is good!

Last weekend I went to a flea market that is open one weekend a month and I picked up this colorful kilim pillow cover from Turkey. I love these and they had stacks to look through. Yep there will always be new pillows. I just can't help it and they are such an easy way to add color, pattern and texture.

The ivy I had in this pot was not doing well so I moved it to another room to see if it would revive and so far it has. I tucked my faux fall leaves and a pumpkin in place for a bit.

I'll say it again, the best thing I have done was to replace the red sofa with this neutral one.
The options to change out colors in here are endless, but for now I'm seeing orange.
:)

Happy Thursday!

  5. A room's wardrobe is like any other--if the basics are in neutrals, you can easily and inexpensively play with different colors by changing only the accessories. Very smart and versatile.

  11. Well you know what they say, "a change is as good as a rest!" I love books, and books on the coffee table are no exception, they invite you to sit down, make yourself comfortable and have a good read

  12. So true! We've basically used neutrals in all the larger pieces in our home. I can move accessories from room to room. Orange is a color I don't use at all. Funny because I live in "Big Orange Country" (TN Vols) LOL! I do have some orange pumpkins outside!

  14. Love this. Muted orange is one of my favorites, and I hope to find the perfect dusty orange for my laundry room :)

As an aspiring organization geek, I just have to ask ... how do you organize all your accessories? For example, the brass key and all the magnifying glasses - are they stashed away somehow, or do you just relocate things to get your fantastic rooms?

Thanks for all you do to inspire us!!

    1. My magnifying glasses are out most of the time in various places or all together. The brass key was in a drawer. I have a bonus room filled with stuff which is getting thinned out and drawers and cabinets and whatever else are filled with things, too. I have been cleaning out and taking stuff to the consignment shop and GoodWill.

  17. I love that striped pillow. That would be easy to recreate in needlepoint, I'm thinking.
