Chunky, Chippy and Raw

5.08.2017

Can you believe that anything in my house has been here for over twenty one years? Yep, I know that's hard to swallow, but it's true. The sofa table in the great room was purchased at Furnitureland South in North Carolina when we were building our house in 1995. We went there and purchased two bedroom suites for the kids' rooms and some pieces for the family room. All the pieces have moved on except the sofa table, but it is time for that to go too.
I've been looking for something more my style. More French farmhouse.
More chunky, chippy and raw and I finally found it.

After looking for months, and then I had quit looking, I finally found the perfect one while browsing the internet. I may be doing a lot of that these days.

Look at the big fat chunky and chippy leg.

The table surface is raw wood, but it is a light weight wood.

I love how the bottom piece slides through the legs and then has a little piece of wood to lock it in.
It's all about the details and character with this piece.

At first I set the plant, in the very heavy concrete urn here, like I had on the other table, but I noticed it was beginning to sag so I had to come up with something else. That was no easy task.

After trying out many different looks I ended up using these old books from France that have been on the vaisselier in the sitting room for years. It was time for them to move to a new spot, too. The vintage basket was on top of the armoire in the master. I like the texture it adds here plus it's hiding the lamp cords under the sofa that want to show from a distance.

I'm even using the same bookends I used with the set of books in the other room. I love these. I cannot remember where I found them. The memory isn't working like it used to. čśĆ

On a cloudy day last week with the lamps on.

So now you know what was in the big box I shared over the weekend.

Have an awesome week!

  5. Love it Kim!! I have that table in a smaller size in my guest room. I love the chippy paint and color of the wood. Hope your foot is getting better. At least you have an excuse to do more on-line shopping! I do a LOT of that myself.

  8. It's very pretty, just the right proportions, and full of character.
You would have been in heaven here yesterday. We went to the grand d├ęballage in P├ęzenas. It's a beautiful town, and a center for antiques, but yesterday's even drew even more dealers, who set up stalls among the local ones. A sea of humanity out trawling for treasures. Great for the hunt and for people watching.

  11. That is beautiful! We built our homes around the same time. I have pieces that are gone, but most of our tables, dressers, chests, etc. are antique and have stayed (although of course we have added pieces LOL). One bedroom has my grandparents' first bedroom set. Upholstered items change from time to time.

  13. Where do you plug in the lamps when they are in the middle of the room like that?

    1. There is a floor outlet under the leather chair so I run an extension cord to it.
