One Very Sick Dog and More

6.17.2017

It's the weekend again! Hope y'all had a great week. Me not so much. If you follow me on instagram and facebook then you know my dog Bailey was very sick. It started on Sunday with a visit to the ER and then she seemed better on Monday. We think it is because they hydrated her with fluids under the skin plus an injection for the vomiting. Anyway on Tuesday she wasn't acting as well as on Monday and she would only eat a few bites of chicken in the morning and then that was it. Wednesday she was eating even less and drinking less, but acted okay. Well, her urine was getting darker and darker since she was going on a pee pad I could see the color. By Thursday morning it was brown so off to the vet we went. Her liver numbers were sky high plus she tested positive for pancreatitis. She has always had a sensitive tummy and we are pretty sure this time it all started with a certain someone, not me, giving her some of his leftover sausage on Saturday. No more rich sausage or anything else for this girl. I don't care how much she bats those brown eyes at him. She spent the night in the hospital as they flushed her with fluids and medications to get her back to normal.
She is on the mend and should come home today! I'm going to give her some extra hugs this weekend, but not any treats she shouldn't have.
Thanks so much for all the prayers and love shared on fb and IG.

  2. That is good news for Bailey, sorry she got sick. I know you miss her, I miss my Yorkies! I plan to get another female when I retire, I am already in my 60's, but can't retire yet!

    1. My husband thinks we shouldn't get another one after she passes. I sort of disagree. I think this house would be way to quiet and boring without a dog.

  4. I so hope she gets to come home today! Ours had ACL surgery in December and she wouldn't eat/drink afterwards. Dehydration can be critical in a small dog. We went to the vet 4 days in a row to be checked and get the "camel hump" injections. It breaks our hearts when our babies are not doing well. Abby says she hopes Miss Bailey feels much better!

  6. I am glad Bailey is feeling better. It is so hard because they can't tell you what is wrong. I also learned the hard way not to give my pups human food. She will be better now.

  7. Poor Bailey! I'm sure she was a little frightened by what was happening to her. So glad to hear she is doing better. We do love our fur babies. Give her a kiss from my Chis, Riley and Jacob.

  8. Aw, Kim, glad to hear it's something treatable. I know what it's like to live with someone who continually gives the dog all the things we think are yummy that maybe are not so great for the dog... ;-) Hope your cutie is back to normal real soon!

  12. I'm glad to hear Bailey is doing better. I know how worrisome and distressing it is when you're dog is sick. My dog Rosie is just recovering from similar tummy troubles (not pancreatitis, however). I've also got someone who gives the dogs rich treats like bacon and sausage. I hope your doggie is back to normal soon.

  14. So glad she is on the mend. We've had one with tummy troubles lately too. It's hard when they don't feel well, and can't really tell you why.
Just an FYI, one of our neighbors landscapers was telling my daughter when she had Henley (her golden puppy out) that apparently the frogs are bad this year. And, when threatened they secrete something that is poisonous to dogs even in small amounts. His dog got very sick!

  15. I know how it feels to have a sick dog....
Our Belle (a yellow lab) is 9 and having severe trouble....she has spinal neuropathy and has days where walking let alone going to the bathroom is hard....
She is on so many meds that it would make your head spin....and that is the tape that holds her together....
The vet was honest that she have little more time with us....that is a hard truth....she is my dog and we are "bonded"....
I wish Bailey well....that she recovers soon and is up to herself again....

  19. I understand how difficult it is to resist that cute little face!!! But, you must be strong and do the right thing!!! Those cuties just can't tolerate people food.....sausage, of all things.....

Glad she is on the mend now. I can't imagine a home without a fur baby.....

  20. So thankful that Bailey is on the mend. I understand all about caring for our fur babies, I have 2 white Chihuahuas and love them dearly. When you get Bailey home, throw in an extra hug from me. :-)

  21. So happy to read that Bailey is back on her way to being her young self again!! That's awful that someone would feed her a fatty sausage. No wonder she was not feeling well. And since she's not able to talk to you & tell you how she feels, that's rough. I'm sure that she feels much better being home & being loved by you!!

  22. Kim, both my dogs have been very sick with pancreatitis. Charlie more than Abi. Now they get ONLY Hills Prescription Diet (ID) for intestinal issues. I buy the canned and the dry dog food. They also get prescription treats from the vet's office. You get it amazingly fast from Chewy.com or your vet. Been about five years now, and they haven't had it since. Watch every little thing that falls to the floor, because she will be watching for crumbs of the "good stuff." Remember that treats can be to high in vet and see if the vet has some in his/her office.

  23. I am so happy to hear Bailey is doing better and will get to come home today! I am a complete mess when my babies are sick. Gracie has a rare pancreatic disease with a very long name so she gets very, very sick occasionally. When she was a puppy she almost died because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. Thankfully our vet is so dedicated that she did research until she found an answer. Gracie is doing very well now with medication but she can only have certain dog food and treats and no table scraps. A couple of weeks ago she licked some of the water off the porch after I watered my plants from the well and she got sick. I thought for sure we would be making a trip to the vet but she recovered in a day thank God. We have to be so careful with her......
    Have a great weekend!!!
Booger and Gracie send wet smoochies to Bailey :o)

  29. So glad to hear that Bailey is doing better. My Bogie has pancreatitis, brought on by an innocent bite of lean pork roast. So frightening....we almost lost him so I do understand what you are going through. I hope her recovery goes smoothly and you never have to experience it again. They are so precious to us. Love your Blog!

  30. Its soooo hard not to spoil our children (mine are alice and annie) with all that human food and goodies...I am guilty as well. Glad sweet Bailey is recovering and that someone who fed the sausage is over his tongue lashing (haha).
