The Summer Deck 2017

6.05.2017

I may have switched over to a more neutral palate in the house, but there is no lack of color on the summer deck this year. Lots of blue, orange and yellow is the name of the game this go around and a lush garden feel has been created with lots of plants.
Welcome to my summer deck 2017.

This is the view from the sunroom door and what I see as I step out here to sit on the sofa either early morning with my coffee or in the evening with a glass of wine. The rest of the day is too hot to be out here this time of year.

The vibrant floral outdoor pillows were the start of this year's look and I found those at HomeGoods.

The blue pillows are ones I have had and are not meant for outdoors so I bring them in if bad weather is coming.

Instead of the outdoor lights we were using under the pergola I decided to hang plants to create a garden room. The lights will be hung on the other side over the table and eventually I will share that side once it comes together.

This bird pillow was also found at HomeGoods and it is not an outdoor pillow either. It's okay to bring out your regular pillows as long as you don't leave them out all the time.

You will notice in some of the shots this pillow was on the sofa and then I switched it. Y'all know I'm always tweaking.

A Kimberly Queen fern is tucked in an enamelware bucket and there just might be a bird house hiding under it.

The chippy bench was used as a coffee table in front of the sofa, but I prefer the pouf to put my feet up on. When I sit out  here it's time to relax and put my feet up. Oh, and the hanging copper watering can happened by chance when Mr. Savvy hung it up there.

The striped Sunbrella pillows are another purchase for this space.

I have had the pouf for a couple of years now and the yellow outdoor rug is new.

This chippy stool and the garden stool are perfect to sit drinks on.

I hope you enjoyed my colorful outdoor room.

Now, all I have to do is keep the plants watered which is basically every other day unless it rains.

Have a great week!

  1. I love it. I'm from the south so I'd put a fan out there & sit.

    1. I'm from the south, too and I have used a fan out here. Only way to sit out here in the sticky humidity. Thanks

  7. Love the beautiful bright colors of the pillows to coordinate with the colors in those pretty hanging baskets. I love the baskets of cheery summer flowers rather than the lights. Such a pretty garden feel on the deck...now put your foot up!

  8. We put up a pergola this year - with a shade top (kind of a heavy sunbrella fabric) and we are loving it! No hanging plants out there but I have alot of pots. Pinks/blue-purple/white are my colors. Bought new furniture and we are loving it. We spend alot of time outside so having a nice "outdoor room" is worth it! I use indoor pillows too, in fact I made some new ones last week! Enjoy your outdoor space!

  14. So much colour that works so well together. It looks like such an inviting place to sit and spend an evening either alone with a good book or with friends. I would happily take up residence on your terrace!

    1. I ordered it online from Home Depot. It is Jordan Brown and they still carry it, but only online.

  17. I'm jealous! If we forget any cushions overnight, they have an inch of cat hair on them the next day. We don't have any pets but our neighbors have many cats. We LOVE our neighbors, though not their animals, so we say nothing and just avoid soft furniture outdoors. But it sure would be nice to just leave the pillows and cushions.

  19. Gosh it looks so good...too bad its too hot to use only occasionally. I have to use the courtyard in evening as well. I am doing some work on our other outdoor space, its just so nice to be able to go out there. I love the rug and the pouf! I am inspired by your choices Kim. Sorry about the foot, that is a bummer. Hope it heals up by the next visit.

  20. What a charming deck to sit on for morning coffee! Here it's just the reverse, it's too cool on the deck for breakfast, but it's perfect for tea time!
