Master Bath Progress Week Of July 23rd

7.30.2017

So let's talk about the master bath progress. Last week the drywall was installed and finished which took two days. The drywall guy did a fabulous job. Mr. Savvy watched him when he was walking on the stilts and putting the finishing coats of plaster on and said it was like watching an artist at work. He said he had never seen anyone finish it so smoothly and almost so perfect that it didn't need much sanding at all. I was dreading the mess from the sanding, but they used a power sander that sucked the dust at the same time. That was a game changer. We still had a small amount of dust, but nothing like it could have been.

Y'all I had to play with the tile and do a mock up of what the tilled wall with the sconces will look like. I shared a post about tiled vanity walls last week.

Vanity wall with one of the canned lights over one of the sinks.

Wiring for the sconces over the vanity.

Only a small piece of drywall had to be installed above the shower. Crown molding will cover that and the tile will run all the way up to the trim just like the vanity side. Yes, let's just dig a little deeper in that wallet and pay for more tile and labor. 😀

Oh, and the shower glass guy came out last week and we talked about how tall we want the glass to go and he emailed me the quote and woe that stuff ain't cheap....but it is what it is.

The mister also built a niche for the shampoo and stuff.

Here is an example of the niche from bhg.com.

Fingers and toes are crossed that the carpenters come on Monday to install the crown molding and then the tile guys can come do lots of tile work that they said will take three days.
Hopefully they can start on Tuesday and be done Thursday since I have to go to Florida next weekend to help clean out my dad's house.
It's so ironic that we were in the middle of the kitchen renovation when my dad passed away and now we are in the middle of the bath reno and we have to go clean out his house.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  8. KIM just a little FYI on your glass doors. I found out the hard way that you have to order a special type of glass not just clear, but some are called diamond finish, they all have different names, but if you want clear glass with NO color you have to specify the special glass. All glass when it is thick will have a green tinge so be sure to tell your glass guy you want NO color if that is what you are expecting. You might already know this, but when I said clear to my glass guy he ordered clear, but not without color so we got to pay for two doors talk about an expensive lesson. The sales person never mentioned the special type of glass and my tiles were white so of course I did not want green glass! UGH!!

  9. I put subway tiles nearly all the way in the master shower and added a niche. I am very happy with it. Luckily I was able to use the old rimless glass doors. Love your sconces and tiles. So sorry about your dad.

  12. I have glass on two sides of my shower, and while it does let lots of light in, it is a pain to keep clean. We have hard water and even with a squeegee, I can't reach the top of the glass. Don't make it TOO tall.

  15. Is the shower head in the sample picture the one your going with?
If so could you advise on make and model. I think this would be a good compromise over a rain head coming out of the ceiling. Thank you.

  16. I guess the cleaning of your dad's house will be hard and bring back many memories. I'll keep you in my thoughts and send lots of positive energy.
The bathroom project is really going great... I want to hire one of those guy who has a vaccuum linked to his sanding machine to sand my bedroom walls which are still naked drywall and need a lot of sanding!

  17. It's coming along! Before long you will have a beautiful new bathroom. I love those sconces. Do you happen to know if they come in nickel? I'm thinking about changing out a mirror/lights in a guest bath. Went through that with my grandparents house and now have a rental house LOL (we inherited the house). Hard work and then we did some remodeling/updating before renting it! Try not to overdo - your foot may act up.

    1. Yes, they do come in nickel and I had a hard time choosing between the two. They are by Hinkley and I ordered mine from bellacor.com.
