A Year In Flowers and My Knockoff

8.31.2017

Let's talk flowers. Flowers can brighten a room and enlighten your mood. They are great for special occasions or just for everyday use. I would love to have a variety of pretty flowers in my home if only we had a flower mart around here. For me to find nice flowers, that don't cost a fortune, I have to drive forty five minutes one way to the nearest Trader Joe's. I do wish someone would open a store closer to me or even a nice florist shop. There is a new one close by and I got so excited until I visited it and all they had were arrangements like you find in hospital gift shops. No, that's not what I'm looking for. I want beautiful cut flowers and many varieties.

See the arrangement below? I made that. Yes, I did. Let me tell you about a book that you will want if you love flowers and flower arranging or if you are like me and don't know too much about flowers and what to do with them.

Let me introduce you to my friend, Kelly of My Soulful Home blog and her luscious new book
"My Soulful Home A Year In Flowers".

This book will help you with everything you need to know about flowers. From prepping the water, picking your flowers for variety, creating depth, achieving flow, choosing the complimentary container and so much more.

I love how Kelly used a chain to anchor the tall lilies in this arrangement.

She shares an arrangement for each month with easy to use step by step tutorials like this simple bouquet for September that gets placed in a mason jar.

And this pretty arrangement for November.

Then I saw this! This is October's arrangement. I could have made the simple September arrangement, but I wanted to make this one....well, my variation of it.

This was so easy with Kelly's instructions. Her's called for small sunflowers and deep burgundy colored ranunculus, but there weren't any small sunflowers or any ranunculus. So I improvised with regular sized sunflowers and some burgundy colored roses.

I had the basket and I picked up the moss at Hobby Lobby. The boxwood clippings are from a bush in my yard. It only took me a few minutes to put this together. It was messy, but easy.

If I can do this anyone can.

Be sure to get Kelly's book and you can have a year in flowers, too.

Thank you, Kelly for this book and all the fun I'm going to have arranging flowers.

The book is available for purchase on amazon.

Have a fabulous holiday weekend and I'm going to go buy some more flowers!

The book was given to me to review and all opinions are my own.

  4. I have her book and I learned a lot from it! Your arrangement is beautiful. I am going to try growing a cutting garden at my new house next year, just so I can have flowers around. The nearest trader joes from me is in Asheville 40 minutes from here.

  5. You did good!!!!! Thomas Jefferson said "I cannot live without books". I say, I cannot live without flowers. So a book of flowers is a good thing!

  9. Kim ~ Thank you SO much! I Rushed my girls out the door to school this morning so I could get over here to your blog for a proper thank you! Your arrangement is beautiful! I love that you used the tutorial as a spring board to your own variation. Once people get the basics down they can create gorgeous floral designs no matter what flowers they have available. And describing the book as "luscious" well, that really made my day! Thank YOU again for sharing it ! xx
