Master Bathroom Progress Week of August 14

8.20.2017

Last Monday was a day off as there was no workers, but on Tuesday and Wednesday the carpenters came to work more on the trim and they installed the vanity base and a large built in.

After trying six samples of paint colors and even going back and having some black added to a color the cabinets look rather light when the light pours in, but they'll be fine. I was going for a gray blue and that is what they are.

Can't wait to have this dressing area to sit down at to apply my makeup. Once the top is on the vanity the tile guys will return to tile this wall. I hope the doors get installed soon, too.

Cute little feet added to make the vanity look like a piece of furniture.

The walls around the tub were trimmed.

I can't wait until this green stain glass window is gone. The new window should be installed next week. It is here and in the garage.

This built in will have adjustable shelves and a cabinet door will go on that opening. This is going to be so nice for storage as we have no linen closet and I used a hutch before.

Our old door was turned into a pocket door which we love.

Hopefully someone will show up soon to talk about the counter for the vanity. That is a hold up for now. It is very hard to get things done that have anything to do with building these days as so many workers returned to Mexico when we had the building slump and now building is booming again and there just aren't enough subs.

There is a lot of caulking and hole filling for the mister to do and then we will start painting.

So it's coming along and looking more like a bathroom.

Enjoy your day!

    1. Thanks Kris. Getting closer, but not close enough!

  5. I sense that your creative, custom painter wheels are already spinning in terms of the bathroom cabinet color even though the room is not yet finished - the only words you didn't add at the end of the sentence about the blue-gray color were "for now!"

    1. They were professionally sprayed and I'm not messing with them anytime soon or maybe ever. I think the color will be fine.

  6. Workers are scarce because of Trump deportation threats. We have the problem in California where there are not enough workers to harvest the crops.

    1. They need to come into the country legally if they want to work here and that law was in effect before Trump.

  7. Maybe there are not enough subs for the contractors b/c the contracters hire undocumented workers and pay them a pitiful wage instead of hiring American citizens and paying them what the work is worth.

    1. It's illegal to hire undocumented workers and I don't think the builders in our area would risk there jobs for that. The tile guys we used are legal and get paid quite well and did a fabulous job. One of the guys' son will attend Ga. Tech this year. Very nice young man who was here helping his dad one day.

    2. I really don't understand how this can all turn political? SHEESH! You go girl for holding your own. Completely agree with you!

    3. Thanks for your reply. I still don't understand why someone who is here legally would go back to Mexico when there are no jobs here. I thought they came here because there are no jobs in Mexico. Legal immigrants, according to an April 2017 Atlanta Constitution article, are eligible for food stamps. The article further states there are undocumented immigrants in Georgia. So they are totally dependent upon the government? I have taught many students who are either undocumented or their parents are and the kids attend college. Maybe I should consider retiring to Georgia. It seems that no one there does anything illegal. No drug use, no drug dealing, no robbery, etc. because somebody might get fined. Sounds like a great place.

    4. Of course there are illegal immigrants in Ga. and I'm sure a lot of them and hoping they don't get caught. There is no need to be sarcastic and I like to keep this blog positive and steer away from politics.

  8. Looking good! Are your vanities to the floor or will you have to sweep under them? We have a free standing one in the best bath at the last house and I always had to sweep under it for dust bunnies. Can not wait to see it all come together.

  9. I absolutely LOVE the stained glass window! I wish I lived closer cause I'd take it off your hands in a HEARTBEAT! We have ... basically zero lot lines and we have blinds on our bathroom window because otherwise, my next door neighbor could look right inside. Also have a half circle (whatever they're called) window ABOVE the square one... IMPOSSIBLE to find a way to cover it and look good while still allowing some light in... it's a mess. I had to buy some of that ugly opaque texturized stick-um paper to stick on the window because I didnt know what else to do.

Such a fan of all you've done!!!
