The New Arrangement in the Great Room

8.28.2017

As I mentioned the other day, when I shared the antique chest, I rearranged the great room. The new arrangement is actually the way it was before I changed it up for Christmas. I wanted the Christmas tree by the fireplace last year which meant I had to rearrange the room to make it work. Well, Mr. Savvy, who wears hearing aids, cannot hear the television as well where "his" chair was placed. He's a hard working man so I don't want him to struggle to hear the t.v. when he is relaxing so back it went to the old arrangement. That's alright since I like it this way, too.

I didn't change to fall decor yet, but that will be coming soon. I have been so busy with the bathroom remodel that I haven't thought about adding fall yet.

The sofa table that I just bought won't really be seen behind the sofa, but it is what it is as the mister likes to say.

I did go ahead and try these new pillow covers from Pottery Barn. I love the added texture and they are so soft.

This French style chair works well here, but I may switch it out with the plaid club chair in the master bedroom for fall and winter.

This is "his" well worn leather recliner that he has had since 2001. It sure has lasted a long time.
No throw pillow goes in his chair.
Here is his view of the television.

I think Mr. bird will be replaced with something else when I change up for fall.

I'm going to go back in the master bathroom today to finish painting.
Still have three doors, baseboards and second coat on the potty room walls.

I'm sending prayers and thinking about those in Texas affected by this devastating storm.
Harvey you need to move out!

You can see the way this room was arranged before here.

  2. I love your eclectic great room. Nothing is matchy-matchy and it is so warm and welcoming. I have a small "great" room in my small house and if I try to be too eclectic, it just looks messy, so my sofa and one of my chairs are the same fabric. I would prefer they be different, but I think it's easier on the eye - in my small room, anyway. Your room looks great arranged either way - and as your husband says, (since we do have to consider them occasionally) it is what it is.

  5. Ha! No throw pillow goes on my husband's chair either (well, when it does it quickly comes off). Love your sofa!

  6. We do these things for our hubbies. :)

We have two leather recliners and the tv is over the fireplace in our new house. I couldn't even believe it when we were buying those chairs or when they were hanging that tv. When you consider life though, those are such tiny things to give in on. :)

  7. I noticed how beautiful the chest you inherited looks in this room. Mr. Savvy's chair looks just like my stepfathers. My mother got sick of it and decided she would surprise him with a new chair for Christmas several years ago.

Well, when he came home and discovered his beloved leather recliner was gone he went through the roof. She gave the old one to Good Will and had to go back that day and reclaim it! The new one went back because he hated it and the old one returned home. My Mother says she is going to bury that chair with him. I couldn't make this stuff up...ha!

  11. Glad Mr. Savvy is happy again. My hubby has a leather chair in our great room also, but it looks brand new as we don't use that room much. Our sunroom is where we seem to gather (no tv), or our bedroom. He has a leather "stressless" chair/ottoman in the sunroom that is well loved. I don't like a pillow in every chair either LOL. (PS I have pillows in your floral fabric on the patio.)

  14. The room looks beautiful. Taking a little break to look at some pretty things while I listen to the relentless rain of Harvey outside my windows. I live just north of Houston in Magnolia and we are at 23 inches of rain so far. Lucky to not have flooding in my house. Heavy heart for my neighbors. Thank you for your shout out to our waterlogged city.

  15. Your room is so pretty. I love your bird too.
My husband is nearly deaf and his audiolgist got him a device for the TV. It directs the sound to his hearing aids and I love it as the Tv is at a quieter level. It's small too only a couple of inches

  18. It looks lovely! I had to do a double take on your husbands recliner - it is almost the exact one that I have and it look just as well worn in all the same places!

  19. I love that arrangement too. I am sure Mr. Savvy appreciated the fact that you danced to the Furniture Shuffle. I am sure after it was completed, he did a "happy dance" ... The new pillows look great and the entire room feels very cozy and beautiful!

  24. I guess I'm nuts, but I think that chair is cool. Nice legs, nail head trim, patina in leather, interesting shape. It's kinda definition of country french, no?
