Fall Dessert on the Deck

10.09.2017

Did y'all have a good weekend? Saturday was nice, but Sunday was gloomy and rainy as Nate moved through. Today I'm inviting y'all to join me for a fall dessert on the deck. Let's pretend that it's cool outside, since it is actually very muggy, and dusk is setting in. I made an apple bundt cake from scratch and you are welcome to join me for a slice.

I'm really not a baker so count yourself lucky that I whipped this up. Lately I've been more in the mood to cook and bake.

For the table cloth I used an old duvet cover in the beautiful colors of fall.

I grabbed my old chicken wire chargers from Pottery Barn. Every time I show these I get questions asking me where they are from. Why doesn't PB bring them back? According to y'all they would sell like hotcakes. Do you hear that PB?

The cake was so easy to make and I usually mess things up, but this one turned out perfect. The original recipe can be found here.

Oh, I forgot to mention the chandelier. This is the old one out of the master bathroom and I knew it would be pretty hung over the table out here. It isn't operable, but it adds a bit of femininity and romance.

I like caramel sauce on mine.

Yes, these moved to the front porch after I cleaned up the table.

Now it's getting dark enough to turn on the string lights.

We can sit over here and eat our cake.
More of this area can be seen in this post.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have an awesome week!

  1. Very, very, very pretty, Kim. The bundt cake looks good and the setting is awesome. I like all your fall bits and pieces. You are right, I think those wire chargers would sell like crazy. I have never seen them anywhere other than your blog.

The chandy looks good, too. It really centers everything, doesn't it? I'll come join you but you better have coffee hiding somewhere...or I could always bring me own. lol xo Diana

  4. Hi Kim,
I am new to your blog and enjoy your posts very much. I am inspired to make this cake and change the décor on my porch. I usually don't change my summer porch, I just take it down for winter after Halloween. Mine is a seasonal porch here in upstate NY, but how fun to change it for the Fall! I actually have these same plates(can't remember where I got them) and I am going to bake and change up my porch today! It is muggy here as well today! Lynn

  6. I make a very similar cake but it goes in a sheet cake pan and there is a cooked glaze that goes over it. So yummy! My goodness, you have alot of pillows, blankets, etc. to move inside (weather). I've been looking for a new deck box (really a taller cabinet) to hold our outdoor cushions. We had similar weather this weekend, but enjoyed a rare lazy day yesterday. Did you have guests over to enjoy your cake/deck?

  8. All looks so lovely. Might have to try the recipe..Just had wonderful apples and homemade caramel dip this past weekend. Also made homemade applesauce with pork so this cake is right up my alley.

  9. I love the look of the wreath on top of the tobacco basket. Everything looks so cozy. Thanks for the reminder that anything can be used for a table cover. I so often forget that.

    2. It looks like you've spooned some type of sauce over the slice of cake on the plate. Can you tell us what that is? It isn't included in the recipe link. Your porch and cake look so beautiful!

    3. It's just a store bought caramel sauce.

  12. It's so pretty. I love your strings of lights.
My doctor's reception area had the most amazing decoration on the mantelpiece. I wanted to take a photo but there were too many patients waiting. A beautiful fireplace, with all kinds of fabulously gnarly squash and pumpkins on the mantel, along with some dried flowers. Likely a professional job. Easy on the eyes.

  24. Your new fall look is just beautiful! The chandy is perfect! You are such an inspiration and so full of great ideas all throughout your house! I hope you dont mind a couple of questions? What is the color of the blue bench? Do you have to bring chandy in from storms? Thanks ! Peggy

    1. Peggy, that bench has been painted many times and I'm not even sure what the last color is. I think it's an Amy Howard One Step Paint called Good Man Is Hard To Find. I think it's a charcoal gray with blue undertones and it looks bluer outside. No, the chandy stays out until we clean up the deck for winter. thanks

  25. Love these colors for Fall. Ready for the weather and temps to feel more like Fall. Feels like summer in NC...so hot and humid the past few days. I have searched high and low for those chargers...wish PB would bring them back!

  28. Just LOOK at your deck!!!!!!! Beautiful! Oh, my goodness! And for not being a baker, it sure looks as if you are! Apple bundt cake...one of my favorites this time of year. I haven't made one yet, but you've planted the seed in my head. I hope the neighbors are ready to collect slices this weekend! (No way hubby and I can eat it all ourselves!) Absolutely lovely, especially with the addition of the chandelier. Doesn't matter that it's inoperable...it's all about just BEING!!! :-) Enjoy your weekend and your cake!
