My Favorite Christmas Mantel

11.24.2017

I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving eating yourself into a turkey coma and enjoying time with family and friends. Today I am sharing my favorite Christmas mantel from my archives, but I have a new favorite coming your way soon.

Into The Wood Christmas Mantel
Originally posted 12/8/2014

I wasn't sure what I was going to do on my mantel this year for Christmas. I was strolling through Pottery Barn and saw these trees with the lights and then ideas came to me and a scene that you might see in the woods, sans the lighted trees, was created.

I used a blanket of snow across the mantel and then placed the trees at each end. I love these trees because the lights have battery packs that run the lights with timers and I just tucked those under the snow.

I knew I wanted to place some deer on the mantel and went in search of ones the correct size. I found both of these at an antique mall.

I love how life like this one looks and wish there had been a buck like this.

I already had the bottle brush trees.

I added two little cute bears at each end of the mantel.

I added bits of snow on top of the burlap bases of the trees.

This vintage Belgian bulb basket that I bought last year from Dreamy Whites holds a thick faux fur throw to grab on a chilly evening. This is Mr. Savvy's favorite throw.

I wanted birch logs in the fireplace this year to go along with the woodland theme and since we don't have birch trees I ordered these from an etsy shop and they came very quickly.

After I was finished shooting pics for this post I decided to add these lights to the logs. Do y'all keep tweaking things after you finished like I do?

  1. Oh I love your mantel, so simple and serene and woods! The bears almost look like hedgehogs with their brush coats!

    1. No, they are bears. They had hedgehogs, too.

    1. No, they are bears. The shop also had hedgehogs, but I bought the bears and deer. They had lots of brush critters.

    2. Hedgehogs actually have a longer pointed face and nose.

  5. I'm doing a woodsy table centerpiece this year and your mantel gave me some additional inspiration. Love the deer! Tramped through the woods to get red berries and found two metal rustic deer on sale to start with this year. Thanks for sharing.

  7. It's lovely. Very creative. I have to thank you for the straight on shot of the entire mantel at the end. Tunnel vision, I feel like with most of the pictures bloggers take today. I know nothing about photography, so I don't know if there is some reason for only taking pics of an object or two. But it is so limiting. Dear Lillie blog takes lots of pics of the entire space, every angle and I love that. More bloggers used to do that. Sort of leaves an impression everyone's house may be trashed except for the corner or object they are photograghing.
