Updates in the Master Bath

11.16.2017

Y'all know I change things up around here frequently and after finishing the master bath remodel it looked the same for several weeks and then I had a moment. You know, one of those moments where an idea comes to you. I didn't love the vintage towel rack on the far wall that you can see in the master bath reveal post. It was the first thing I would see across the bathroom as I entered it. It just never felt quite right and then I realized I needed to move the towel rack and replace it with art. I think I just needed this white wall filled with more color and warmth.

Updates in the Master Bath

So I grabbed one of my favorite paintings that I found at an antique mall a few years ago. It isn't a well executed drawing, but I think that is what draws me to it. After choosing this one it just happened to be the same color as the chair. Love when that happens.

A basket of towels sits where the chair used to.

The towel rack is now in the potty room. This was just a vacant wall so why not hang it there?

I shared a post last week about art in bathrooms and I thought I would share again the other art I have in here. Two old characteures of me and the mister  sit on the top shelf of the built ins. I think it is good to personalize a bathroom. After all it is a very personal space.

So hard to get a clear shot of these drawings as they are so high up. Anyway the artist thought he was quite funny drawing a picture of me shopping and the likeness was not very good.

This more modern painting hangs over the toilet. A very common spot to hang art.

I like to occasionally open the curtains to let the sunshine in.

We are really enjoying our new bathroom and now I like it even more with the added art on this wall.

One more week till Thanksgiving!!

  5. The caricatures of ya'll remind me of Dolly Parton and George Bush! LOL I'd say the artist got you down pat with the shopping. I do have art in the bathroom (it is kept away from steam), and even a few vintage plates in one of our bathrooms. Not sure about towels in the potty room (tell the mister he left the lid up ha!).

  6. I love the painting there. Matches the chair beautifully and adds just enough color.

  7. Love that painting---it is almost naive and I think that is what makes it interesting. Perfect with the color of the chair.

LOL about the artist sketching you shopping! He was onto you! I think it is a fun rendition and most times those caricatures don't look anything like the real person.

The bathroom looks beautiful, Kim---restful and peaceful. xo Diana

  8. What a fabulous bathroom, I hope the painting will cope with any steam that may come from the shower. I love the caricatures, aren't they just the best and always fun. We tend to place them in a downstairs loo or bathroom, gives people something to smile at!!

  9. What a beautiful space this is, Kim. And somehow adding that painting made the room take on more of your personality, I think. Now the room is lovely, peaceful, but with just a little quirky charm! (Well, you have lots of charm, but I think you like a little bit of quirkiness; am I right?)

  13. This is the first time I have visited your lovely blog, to be remedied by a quick bookmark, what a beautifully serene bathroom you have created. This was the perfect time for me to find you as I have just completed remodeling my own master bath and my downstairs powder room. The guest upstairs bath is in a state of dust and chaos and should be finished before the end of January. All have involved fully gutting and complete revamping of internal plumbing at the same time as a total redo of my kitchen and laundry rooms and the removal of a three story 16 x 7 foot brick chimney. I think you have great flair and many of my design decisions mirror yours, but I have been completely stumped about widow treatments and the hardware to present them. Your's are drop dead gorgeous! Simple, sophisticated and classic. Do you mind my asking about sources for the hardware rods and rings and for the curtains as well. I think they are perfect. Now, if I could just find a duplicate of the charming Collie picture I could call the Master bath done.
    With kindest regards,

    1. Oh my you have a lot of renovations going on. I know you will be so glad when they are complete! I did a source post too and I need to link it to this one. The rod and rings are from Pottery Barn and the curtains are custom by Anne of La Fortune Linens Etsy shop. She does fabulous work. She made my dining room drapes, too. So glad to have a new follower!

  14. Love the Collie painting! I have two smooth tri-colored females. Makes the space softer, like the breed.

  15. Your bathroom is really dreamy and the view from the window is perfect. I like the idea to add art everywhere and the collie drawing is charming.
