Swapping Chairs

2.19.2018

I was so thrilled to find a set of antique French chairs on ebay a year ago. I had been wanting a real set of French dining chairs with rush seats for quite some time and was finally able to afford them. I had intended for them, from the beginning, to go in the breakfast room with the French farm table and that is where they have been .........until now.

I simply swapped the chairs that were in here with the ones in the breakfast room and I love the change.

I also put the kubu chairs in here and put the black dining chairs in the great room as I shared in the paint color reveal post..

I am longing for spring so I added the vase of flowers.

It has been mostly cloudy and or raining or drizzling now for d a y s and then we had sun most of the day yesterday and then right back to gloom again.

The antique mirror that use to hang in the foyer, where Mango the cow hangs now, has been moved in here over the buffet. The antique mirror that was hanging here has moved to another room. The one that hung here before is a bit smaller than this one. Did you keep up with all that?

I'm loving the change for now and it's Miss Bailey approved, too.

You can see the space with the other chairs in this post.

Have a great week!

  1. I love those, Kim. They are so comfortable to sit in, too. I have ONE of them...and use it as a little side chair in the girls bedroom. The top "rail" on the one I have has a hand painted floral on it. The gal I bought it from said it was original to the piece.
You were lucky to find a set of six in good shape. xo Diana

  7. I'm so glad you have not painted all of your wood. I shudder when fine furniture with such beautiful wood is covered up. I love the look you've achieved!

  8. I adore them!! They are so lovely! I also noticed you changed your hutch in the back to a Vasselier! You probably did that a while ago, but sometimes I miss these things. It is also so beautiful. Angelina

  13. The chairs swapped out look great. I love those chairs. So pretty and they go so well with your table and hutch. It is amazing just what swapping things out can do to change up a room. I am so tired of winter here in Illinois. I was trying to get pictures today for a blog post and it is so foggy and rainy that I could not get any. I have to wait for some sunshine to reappear. Hopefully soon. Just would love to see any early Spring for us. Have a great new week.

  16. Your room is beautiful! I am particularly partial to the blue chest! The rug under the table, is it jute or woven?

  18. What a great find on eBay! I like the change very much. I have two similar chairs that were given to me by my family. They had Cane Seats that were removed due to damage. Do you believe they are French chairs? They are walnut wood and have darkened over time. How can I restore or change the dark to a lighter pecan or walnut finish?

    1. Nancy, I have no idea where yours are from. They could be French. Mine have rush seats as they are very old. I have no idea how you can lighten the wood. You would have to ask an expert. Thanks

  19. Hi Kim, I love the change! I love how the furniture and accessories in your home are so interchangeable from room to room. I have a question about your draperies. How do you get the pleated curtain to hang below the ring? The hooks I have found cause the fabric to hang higher and cover part of the ring. I want mine to hang like yours do.

    1. Thanks, Tracy. I guess it is the way the seamstress made the curtains and the placement of where she put the places for the hooks. I didn't do it any certain way. I bought the rings and just clipped them on.
