Spring Style Bedroom and How to Make a Bed Taller

3.19.2018

The red plaid and gingham bedding has been switched out for the lighter neutral color bedding I used last summer in the bonus room. To add some touches of spring I bought a couple of new pillows, too. While adding these things I took the room from a child's space to a more grown up space with the French country style as in the rest of the house. The only new items are the pillows. Everything else came from other areas of the house. I also didn't care for how low these twin beds were so I'll share how I made them taller.

Spring Style Bedroom and How to Make a Bed Taller

Soft blue pillows with birds and pussy willow are the perfect spring accessories.

You may not have noticed, but the beds are a few inches taller with the help of these lifts. Super simple and they are cheap on amazon. The bed skirt hides them.

Here is a before photo of the beds with no lifts. See how low they were?

When decorating with neutrals it is always good to add texture and those extra details like these buttons to keep things from getting boring.

This is where I moved the antique mirror from the dining room to.

The blue ticking lamp shades add another layer of blue like the birds on the pillows.

The black framed paintings were switched out for a painting from my stash and the vintage roe deer antlers are on the other side of the window as seen in photos above.

Here is a close up of this old painting I've had for several years.

Children's reading has been switched out.

My old sheep pillow comes out each spring somewhere.

Across from the beds the red cow painting has been replaced with this cow painting.

Oh, and a touch of black is always a good thing.

I hope you found some spring inspiration and have a great week!

  1. Kim, your refreshed spring look is so pretty and serene. I discovered the bed risers several years ago and they are great, they do make a difference. The chest between the beds is stunning, if I remember, that came from your dad’s home.

  2. Looks beautiful Kim. Those risers are great. We had to build risers back in the day. Nice that they have these now.

  5. I love this room Kim. The bedding is so beautiful. Perhaps you could do a post on where you shop for your bedding. I never see anything around here that looks remotely like the pieces you find. Thanks!

    1. Any those duvet covers are from Serina and Lily which I bought on sale. Their stuff is a bit pricey for me. The quilts are Pottety Barn which is where most of my bedding is from.
      Thanks

  6. Love the soft, spring look of this room!! Another benefit of those bed lifts is more room under the bed for storage boxes!! I had them with my teenage daughters when they had sooooo much stuff!!

  8. Very pretty room. The colors are so soothing for a bedroom. I've been considering these risers for the twin beds in my guest room but I have hardwood rather than carpet. Anyone have any ideas how to keep the risers from sliding on the wood? Thanks.

  9. Our bedroom set is an antique, bought it at a yard sale when we were first married, it belonged to someone's grandpa. Anyway, the bed was only a double, but we loved it, it was so high! I didn't realize how much I loved the height until we got a new king bed...blah. I never thought of the risers. I actually have them, from one of the kids' dorm room. Awesome trick! Thanks!

  10. Kim,
You're amazing! I love all the changes you make. I hope you can answer this question. I have new twin beds in our guest room with head and foot boards and I want to use a bedskirt. What can be done about getting the bedskirt around the footboard corners where the leg is? Grateful for a reply.

  12. I love the way you can change a room. The pillows are just the right touch for spring. I absolutely love the headboards! The wood finish and the cut out design. Are the beds new or one of your great finds?

    1. Nancy, those are family heirlooms. I inherited them after my dad's passing and they were my grandparents before he got them.

  14. Kim, those beds are beautiful and yes, they look better with the raisers in place. I love when you refresh an entire room, I scroll slowly looking at every detail you have added. Your pillows and linens are always adorable, but all those other elements... the art, the lamps, the furniture around the room... are always on spot and so interesting. You always inspire me!!

  15. I love the new look!...and love those new pillows too!....Such a beautiful room for lucky guests...I have never tried those risers before...could actually use them in my main guest room....You are the bed change up master!!

  16. Love the look with the raised beds but be very careful. I had the risers in my grandson's room and he jumped on the bed. The riser collapsed and broke dumping him. He hit his head, only a bump but could have been more serious. Also my husband, admittedly a large man sat hard on the bed (plopped!) and the riser cracked. Just a word to the wise...
